SYC Competitive Cheerleading Squad

SYC COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING SQUAD

Goal: Our goal is to provide an affordable option for cheerleaders to advance their skills and compete at a level higher than recreational sideline cheerleading.

Registration for SYC Competitive Cheer Squad Try Outs is Open!

Tryouts for the NEW! SYC Competitive Cheer Squad are Thursday, May 23rd 6-8 pm and Friday, May 24th 6-8 pm. Location will be emailed once finalized.  Your child must be signed up if they are attending the squad tryout. In order to make the competitive team a predetermined score must be obtained. Score sheets will be emailed prior to the event for parents to review with their child. There is no fee for tryouts.

Thursday’s session will include instruction and practice. The Thursday session is a drop off event. You must provide parent contact info in order to drop off your child for Thursday’s session. Friday’s session will include the evaluation and uniform fittings. At the conclusion of Thursday night’s session, each participant will be assigned an arrival time for Friday between 6-8 pm. The Friday evaluation will take approximately 30 minutes. Parents can stay with the child until they are finished on Friday’s evaluation.

Cheerleading attire (athletic tank, shorts, cheer shoes, hair pulled up in pony) must be worn during the practice and evaluation. Please bring a water bottle.

If you have questions please contact Rachael Dorn via email [email protected] or text 410-241-4597. Thank you!

What is Competitive Cheer?

The SYC Competitive Cheerleading Squad is a competitive, recreation cheer program that incorporates a cheer, dance, jumps, high level stunting, and tumbling into a choreographed 2 ½ minute routine to compete in area cheer competitions.

Who Can Participate?

Competitive cheer is open to cheerleaders within the ages of 7-12 (age is as of 8/31/2019) and in the SYCSD or surrounding Southern York County area. All participants must attend try outs in order to qualify for the team. All participants must either cheer for fall or winter sports or play another sport in order to qualify as a recreation team (and not be subject to “all star” team requirements).

What is the Commitment?

Pre-Season Tumbling: Participants must be enrolled in a tumbling program from June-September. The squad is planning on attending a group class at Titanium Athletics, however, independent tumbling classes are permitted if the squad class does not fit your family’s schedule. Periodic check-ins for tumbling progress must be coordinated with the coaches if you choose not to participate in the squad tumbling class.

Practice:
Participants must be prepared for intensive practices to initially learn and improve the choreography of the routine from late October and continuing through February. Practices are mandatory. If a child is going to miss a practice, you must notify the coach before the practice. If a child misses 2 practices they are at risk for removal from the team. WE do reserve the right to remove any child who does not report to practices and competitions.

Competitions:
The squad will participate in approximately 5-7 competitions from November through February. All competitions will be within a single day’s travel distance (approximately 2-3 hours). All competitions are on either Saturdays or Sundays.

Fees:
$450 program fee which includes competitive squad uniform, bow, gym rental fee, competition fee, Youth Club insurance, and cost of choreography & music. Payments may be made in increments from June through September. Additional expenses will include:

·        Indoor Cheerleading Shoes – Kaepa Stellarlyte (available from Flying Feet for $52)

·        Cheer Warm Ups – To be ordered with uniform (approximately $60)

·        Cheer Bag – To be ordered as a group with uniform (approximately $30)

·        Note: The fee does not include individual discretionary travel costs associated with each competition. We encourage carpooling but travel arrangements will be the responsibility of each cheer family.

Official registration forms and payment options will be provided after tryouts/evaluations and invitations to the cheer squad are determined.
