As you read the descriptions of the various divisions within SYC Little League, keep in mind that the age ranges given for each division are intended to be guidelines for the purpose of registration. Remember, for all divisions above Tee Ball, evaluations and/or tryouts will be required and your child will be placed in a division according to their skill level, not just their age. During the registration process you will be given the option to select a preference for a division other than what your child's age would indicate. They may be selected for that preferred division based on evaluations and the draft.

Tee Ball Division: Ages 4-5 (and inexperienced age 6)
Tee Ball is an introduction to baseball and players hit the ball off a batting tee. The players learn basic rules and skills in non-competitive games. The emphasis is on fun and instruction and coaches ensure equal participation while fostering a love of the game. Tee Ball is open to boys and girls.
At this age group, each player must have a parent or guardian present for the duration of the practice or game. Practices will begin in March. Teams will practice twice a week (1 weeknight and 1 weekend) until games begin on April 13th. Once games begin, practices will be reduced to 1 weeknight practice per week. Weeknight practices typically begin at 6pm or 6:15 and last about an hour. Weekday practices can be on any night of the week (M-F). The season will end in early June.
Teams will be formed in early March. At that point, you will receive a welcome email from your coach regarding practice and game schedules etc.
Age Group: 4 - 5 year olds
Field Size: Games are played on a 60-foot base path
Ball Type: Soft compression ball
Season: Spring
Schedule: Weekend games, weeknight practices
Teams consist of 8-10 players
The league provides hats, jerseys, team bats and helmets. Parents are responsible for providing a glove, cleats (if desired) and baseball pants (colors determined by team manager).
Minors A Hybrid Division: Ages 6-7 (and inexperienced age 8)
The Minors A Hybrid Division is an instructional division in which the goal is the teach players the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, and throwing along with the basic rules and strategies of baseball. The focus of this division is fun, fair play, sportsmanship and teamwork. This division will include a combination of 100% Coach Pitch and Limited Player Pitch as the season progresses. Minors A Hybrid Division is open to boys and girls. Players must participate in a pre-season evaluation in order to determine whether they will be placed into teams with earlier implementation of player pitch or to teams which will likely remain 100% coach pitch throughout the season.
Practices will begin in March. Teams will practice 2-3x a week (1-2 weeknights and 1 weekend) until games begin on April 1st. Once games begin, practices will be reduced to 1-2 weeknight practices per week. Weeknight practices typically begin at 6:00 or 6:15 p.m. Weekday practices can be on any night of the week (M-F). The season will end on Sunday, June 4th.
Teams in the Majors and Minors Divisions will play other SYC teams and will also play interlock ("travel") games against teams from surrounding Little Leagues such as Dallastown, York, Hanover, Dover, etc.
All players must participate in a pre-season evaluation. A regular season championship and an All-Star Game is played. Playoffs are conducted at the end of the season with the winners & runner-ups receiving medals. Skilled 7-year-old players are eligible to be selected for the District 14 Clarence Boyd Tournament which is held in the last few weeks of July.
Age Group: 6 - 7 year olds, typically 1st and 2nd Grade. Some 8-year-olds with less experience.
Tournament Eligibility: District 14 Clarence Boyd Tournament
Field Size: 40' coach pitching distance, 46' player pitch distance, and 60' base paths
Ball Type: Hardball
Season: Spring
Schedule: Practices and games any day of the week/weekend
Teams consist of 10-12 players
The league provides hats, jerseys, team bats and helmets for the regular season. Parents are responsible for providing a glove, cleats, and baseball pants (colors determined by team manager). Many parents purchase bats and helmets for their players at this level. Parents will also be responsible for purchasing a uniform for their player should they be selected to a Little League Clarence Boyd team.
Minors AA Player Pitch Division: Ages 8-10
The Minors AA Player Pitch Division continues to build on the fundamentals of hitting, fielding and throwing while incorporating 100% player pitching and increased levels of competitiveness. Stealing (except to home plate) and more advanced base-running strategies are introduced. The skills learned in this division will prepare participants for eventual play in the LL Majors Division in future seasons. Coaches will emphasize sound baseball mechanics and strategy while promoting fun, teamwork, sportsmanship and a passion for the game. Minors AA Player Pitch Division is open to both boys and girls 8-10 years of age. Some 7-year-olds with exceptional skills may be able to play at this level after a successful evaluation, recommendation from a former coach, and draft selection.
Teams in the Majors and Minors Divisions will play other SYC teams and will also play interlock ("travel") games against teams from surrounding Little Leagues such as Dallastown, York, Hanover, Dover, etc.

Widely known as Little League Baseball, this competitive division is for boys and girls who are 11 and 12 years old. Tryouts will be required and players who have previously played baseball with SYC will also have their former coaches' evaluations taken into account. All 12-year-olds and some 11-year-olds will play in this division. 10-year-old players who exhibit exceptional skill may also be selected for the Majors Division.
Teams in the Majors and Minors Divisions will play other SYC teams and will also play interlock ("travel") games against teams from surrounding Little Leagues such as Dallastown, York, Hanover, Dover, etc.
Near the end of the regular season, a team of 11 and 12-year-old All-Stars will be chosen to represent SYC in the Little League International Tournament for a chance to advance to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Tournament play will begin around June 18 and may continue through end of July. The length of a team's post-season will depend on how far they advance in the tournament. Players in this division are also eligible to be selected for the District 14 Clarence Boyd Tournament, which is usually held in the last few weeks of July.
