Who Can Participate?
SYC Youth Field Hockey program is open to girls and boys ages 5-12. This year we are doing things differently than last year. We are starting a local league for our older teams. We plan to have a program for K-2 and then teams for grades 3/4 and 5/6 for youth in the SYCSD or surrounding Southern York County area.
What is the Commitment?
For the K-2 program, the commitment is 2 days per week for either practices or games/scrimmages. For grades 3/4 and 5/6, the commitment is 2-3 days per week, 2 days for practices and 1 weekend game/scrimmage.
Practice:
Practices will be local, generally in the evening or Saturday mornings for approximately 1 to 2 hours.
Games:
For grades 3/4 and 5/6, they will participate in approximately 8-10 games or scrimmages in our local league against Littlestown, Windsor, Southwest and Dallastown. Practices will start in August and games will start in September and run through mi-late October. We will play 7v7 for 3/4 and 11v11 for 5/6 with goalies. Games will be played on turf or grass fields around Southern York County.
For the K-2 program, it will be clinic style, where the players will learn basic skills and gain knowledge of the game. We plan to organize scrimmage/games and Play Days with MD teams and Windsor, PA teams. The program will start in mid-late August and run through mid-late October.
Sportsmanship:
We are strong proponents of good sportsmanship and team spirit. We expect nothing less from our players, coaches and parents. We ask that everyone please be respectful on and off the field, both during practices and games. This means no foul language, no talking poorly about a player, coach or referee. We may not agree or like all of the decisions that coaches or referees are making, but they are doing the best job they can. Bottom line, we will not tolerate bad behavior or negative attitudes and will take disciplinary action if necessary.
Fees:
K-2: $85 program fee
3/4 and 5/6: $120 program fee, if using uniform from last season, there will be a fee discount.
Program fees include a reversible pinnie (if needed), a field hockey ball and other league/ref fees.

Field Hockey stick (length should be from the ground to hip)
Mouth guard
Reversible Shin guards (white/black or white and black socks/shin guard covers to be worn over shin guards)
