2018 Spring Registration:

Little League registration for our spring season opens January 1, 2018 and continues throughJanuary 31.  We are extremely pleased to announce that our registration fees remainunchanged from the past two seasons!  Players of all skill levels and experience are welcome and encouraged to participate.  Please note that during the registration process, you will register your player(s) in a division (e.g., player pitch minors) based on their birthdate-determined little league age.  If you would like to request that your player be considered for a different division, there is a section during registration to make the request. Information on the different divisions can be found on our website,, under the baseball menu.

Registration for our 13-16 SYC Baseball division opens January 1 and continues through March 31.  Registration fees remain unchanged from last year.  Please note that the 13-16 season starts later than the Little League program because of the overlap with the high school program.

Call for Volunteers

Volunteers are the cornerstone of the success of our SYC Little League Baseball program.  Coaches/managers, board members, umpires, team parents, and volunteers for the concession stand and field maintenance activities are all part of the team that makes SYCLL successful for our kids and community.  Please consider volunteering in any way you are able; your help will ensure our continued success.  You can sign up to volunteer in one of these roles during the spring player registration.

Please note that protecting our players is our number one priority and all volunteers must provide background clearance information as required by PA State law and Little League International.  Information of background clearances can be found on our website (here).

2018 Player Evaluations

For our Little League program to be successful, it is imperative that we have balanced teams with players of all skill levels.  To facilitate this, we must evaluate our players based on skill.  Each season, managers and coaches provide feedback on each player.  This feedback is the foundation of our player evaluations; however, in some cases we need additional information in the form of an in-person evaluation at our Windy Hill building.  The players that will require an in-person evaluation are those who:

  • did not play in 2017
  •   want to play at a level above their age (i.e. a player is league-age 8 and would like to play up to 9-10 kid pitch)
  •  Majors-age (11-12) player and are not returning to a Legacy team
  •  want to show improvement from 2017

Evaluations are scheduled for early February; Sunday 2/11 and Tuesday 2/13.  More information will be sent out closer to the evaluation dates; in the meantime, please mark your calendars.

Information about evaluations for the 13-16 division will be forthcoming.

Winter Clinics, January 2018

Our winter clinic sessions are on-going.  Winter clinics are a series of instructional sessions spread out over four weeks and designed to provide interested players with an opportunity to continue to hone their skills.  Clinics are offered for different age groups with either fundamental sessions (designed to enhance the broader skills of throwing, catching, and hitting) or more position-focused sessions such as those for pitchers and catchers (designed to develop critical mechanics for specific positions).

The December clinics were very successful with the addition of new clinics such as a t-ball clinic, and clinics for advanced fundamentals and pitching skills.  We are beginning our next winter clinic session on January 6th

New for January, and for the first time, we are offering a hitting clinic!  The hitting clinic will be structured differently than the other SYC Baseball Winter Clinics. There will be 4 dates in January (7th, 14th, 21st, 28th) in which there will be five 30-minute sessions per date with up to 6 players per session. A player signs up for each date and time slot separately and independently.  Think of it like you are going to a batting cage and paying $10 for 30 minutes except with added value of having several coaches, individualized instruction, and different hitting stations such as live ball hitting cages, tee hitting station, short toss hitting, and rapid toss hitting.

Each player will progress through several hitting stations throughout the 30-minute session to advance their hitting strategy, mechanics, and performance. There will be one player per station for safety reasons. Players are required to wear sneakers (no cleats), bring their own helmet and bat (if they own them) otherwise they will be provided. Due to the well-defined schedule, we will require all participants to be on time for their session.

A player may sign up for more than one 30-minute session at $10 per session. Limited to the first 6 participants registered per 30-minute session.

Spots are still available; registration is open through the end of 12/31/2017; if you'd like to participate and don't see options to register, please contact me at

2017 SYCLL End-of-year Survey

It is the goal of the SYCLL board to work to continuously improve our program.  Our 2017 end-of-year survey has been sent out and is still available.  To date we have only received about 40 responses.  The feedback received is very valuable and we are already working to incorporate some of the suggestions we have received from this year. For example, more frequent communication is something that is requested quite often.  SYC Baseball has been working to communicate more frequently through email, Facebook (@SYCBaseball) and now on Twitter (@SYCBaseball).  Please check us out online and ‘like’ our FB page or ‘follow’ us on Twitter!  In addition, we are planning a board meeting where everyone from the SYC Baseball community will be invited to attend.

The survey will be open through January 31 and can be accessed here:

New Little League Baseball Bat Standards

Beginning January 1, 2018 Little League will implement the new USA Baseball Bat Standard.  This change is not exclusive to Little League International; other organizations such as AABC, Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Baseball, Dixie Youth Baseball and PONY Baseball have also adopted the new standard.

You (and your player) will be affected by this change!  Of utmost importance to understand is that bats used and approved for the 2017 season, will NOT be acceptable for use in the 2018 season.

Again, currently approved bats (i.e., the bat your player owns now) will not meet the new USA Baseball standard.  If you are planning to purchase your player(s) a new bat in the near future, please buy a bat that has the USA Baseball stamp to ensure it meets the requirements of the new standard.  (These bats are now being advertised on-line and will be available in stores soon.)  Bats for 2018 must have the USA Baseball stamp to be acceptable for use!  The SYCLL board is planning for this change and has purchased bats that meet the new requirement.  The board will ensure that each spring 2018 SYCLL team will have at least one league-provided bat for player use. (Note: bats for the t-ball division will be addressed separately.)

Information on the new standard, designed to make youth bat performance more wood-like, can be found at the following links:

2018 Little League Summer Tournament Reminder

As we begin preparation for the upcoming season, please keep in mind that players may have an opportunity to participate in one of the Little League summer tournaments.  The Little League International tournament teams will begin practicing June 1st with games starting on, or around,June 20th and may last into August depending on the success of the team.  The District 14 Clarence Boyd tournament teams will begin practicing after the spring season concludes with games starting on, or around, July 15th and typically concludes by the end of July.

Participation on a tournament team is a great experience for players and their families.  Participation requires a commitment to the team and the tournament practice and game schedule so please consider these dates as you begin planning your 2018 summer vacations.  More information on the tournaments and how SYCLL selects players for the tournament teams can be found on our website (click here: tournament selection process).
