2019 Spring Registration:

Registration Dates:  Little League registration for our spring season is now OPEN.  Enjoy an early registration discount of $5 off any spring division program from now until January 1.  Discount will be applied during checkout. Starting January 1, 2019, registration will continue at the regular spring fee per division and continues through January 31.  We are extremely pleased to announce that our registration fees remain unchanged from the past three seasons!  It is important to note that we will only be able to offer late registration (with a $25 late registration fee) for a limited time this season so please don’t delay in registering!  Late registration will run from February 1 – February 9 (no additional registrations for hybrid divisions and above will be accepted after February 9).

General Information: Players of all skill levels and experience are welcome and encouraged to participate.  Please note that during the registration process, you will register your player(s) in a division (e.g., player pitch minors) based on their birthdate-determined little league age.  If you would like to request that your player be considered for a different division, there is a section during registration to make the request (and/or please contact us during the registration process). Information on the different divisions can be found on our website,, under the baseball menu.

*Intermediate Division Info: For the first time in two years, we are pleased to offer our Intermediate Division for players League Aged 13.  The Intermediate (50/70) Baseball Division was introduced in January, 2010, as a pilot program for 13-year-olds which utilizes a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths.

The division offers a transition for players between the standard Little League field size (46-foot pitching distance and 60-foot base paths) and the full-sized field size (60-foot, 6-inch pitching distance and 90-foot base paths).

An expanded rule-set is used with rules that include, but are not limited to: runners being permitted to lead off bases, runners may attempt to steal at any time, and allowing an on-deck batter.

Team(s) in this division will participate in interlock play against Intermediate Division teams from surrounding Little Leagues (Dallastown, Hanover, Spring Grove, etc.).  This Division will play a full Little League season.  Skilled players will be eligible to represent SYC in the Intermediate (50/70) International Tournament.

**13-16 York County Baseball Info: The 13-16 Division is NOT a Little League program and does not begin until April 2019.  Registration for our 13-16 SYC Baseball division opens January 1 and continues through March 31.  Registration fees remain unchanged from last year.  Please note that the 13-16 season starts later than the Little League program because of the overlap with the high school program.  Players registering for the 13-16 Division will not be contacted before March (for the 13-16  division, practices start in April, games start in May).  There will also be a 16-19 wood bat league York County Baseball team.

2019 Player Evaluations:

For our Little League program to be successful, it is imperative that we have balanced teams with players of all skill levels.  To facilitate this, we must evaluate our players based on skill.  Each season, managers and coaches provide feedback on each player.  This feedback is the foundation of our player evaluations; however, in some cases we need additional information in the form of an in-person evaluation at our Windy Hill building.  The players that will require an in-person evaluation are those who:

1. They didn't play SYC Baseball in 2018.
2. They played T-Ball in Spring 2018 and are moving up to Hybrid Coach/Player Pitch this Spring.
3. They are requesting to play at a level above their age (i.e. a player is league-age 8 and would like to play up to 9-11 kid pitch).
4. They are a Majors-age (11-12) player and are not returning to a Legacy team (Some players returning at the Majors level may remain with their 2018 team for the 2019 season.  If they choose not to remain with their team, they will need to be evaluated and will be re-drafted to another Majors team).

Evaluations are scheduled for early February and players who need evaluation will be required to attend one of two offered sessions; Monday 2/4 and Sunday 2/10.  More information will be sent out closer to the evaluation dates; in the meantime, please mark your calendars.

Information about evaluations for the 13-16 division will be sent in March.

If you are unsure if your player needs to come in for an evaluation, please contact us to clarify.

Below is the evaluation schedule - please choose whichever date and time work for your schedule (you only need to attend ONE session).

Monday, Feb 4
6-7pm Hybrid Coach/Player-Pitch Minors (7-8)
7-8pm Player-Pitch Minors (9-11)
8-9pm Majors (11-12)

Sunday, Feb 10
2-3pm Hybrid Coach/Player-Pitch Minors (7-8)
3-4pm Player-Pitch Minors (9-11)
4-5pm Majors (11-12)

The location for evaluations is the Windy Hill Building:
1020 Windy Hill Rd, New Freedom, PA 17349

Additional details:
- There are no evaluations needed at the T-Ball level.
- All players should bring a glove, athletic cup, and wear sneakers (no cleats).
- Players may bring their own bat and helmet, but we will have some available for those who need.
- Players seeking an opportunity to "play up" should be evaluated at the higher level (Example: a 10-year-old trying out for Majors should come to a Majors evaluation).  Please keep in mind that while players are able to try out for the next level, there is no guarantee that the request will be granted.  Many factors go into the decision, including the abilities of the player and team sizes at each level.
- Majors (11-12) is our most competitive level of play for the Spring season and we field only a small number of teams.  All 12-year-olds are guaranteed a spot at this level as a Little League requirement, but 10- and 11-year-old players must prove their abilities to be named to a team.  If not chosen for a Majors team, those players will be selected to a Player-Pitch Minors team.  If you have a 12-year-old that you feel would be more successful playing in the Minors division, please reach out and we would be happy to discuss with you.
- In the event of inclement weather that will impact evaluations, we will email as soon as possible to communicate the cancellation and provide a make-up date.
- Players evaluations are conducted by experienced managers and coaches who are NOT coaching in your player's division (e.g., a Player-pitch minors manager/coach will NOT evaluate players in the PPM division)
- Teams will be announced in late February for Majors and Minors, and by mid-March for T-Ball.

Winter Clinics, January 2019:

Registration for our January 2019 winter clinic sessions OPEN and there are still spots available.  Winter clinics are a series of instructional sessions spread out over four weeks and designed to provide interested players with an opportunity to continue to hone their skills.  Clinics are offered for different age groups with either fundamental sessions (designed to enhance the broader skills of throwing, catching, and hitting) or more position-focused sessions such as those for pitchers and catchers (designed to develop critical mechanics for specific positions).

Back by popular demand, we are again offering a specific hitting clinic!  The hitting clinic will be structured differently than the other SYC Baseball Winter Clinics. There will be 4 dates in January (6th, 13th, 20st, 27th) in which there will be five 30-minute sessions per date with up to 6 players per session. A player signs up for each date and time slot separately and independently.  Think of it like you are going to a batting cage and paying $10 for 30 minutes except with added value of having several coaches, individualized instruction, and different hitting stations such as live ball hitting cages, tee hitting station, short toss hitting, and rapid toss hitting.

Each player will progress through several hitting stations throughout the 30-minute session to advance their hitting strategy, mechanics, and performance. There will be one player per station for safety reasons. Players are required to wear sneakers (no cleats), bring their own helmet and bat (if they own them) otherwise they will be provided. Due to the well-defined schedule, it is important that players are on time. We will require all participants to be on time for their hitting session or they may miss one or more of the five rotations.

A player may sign up for more than one 30-minute session at $10 per session. Limited to the first 6 participants registered per 30-minute session.

Spots are still available and you can register on our website at

Call for Volunteers:

Volunteers are the cornerstone of the success of our SYC Little League Baseball program.  Coaches/managers, board members, umpires, team parents, and volunteers for the concession stand and field maintenance activities are all part of the team that makes SYCLL successful for our kids and community.  Please consider volunteering in any way you are able; your help will ensure our continued success.  You can sign up to volunteer in one of these roles during the spring player registration.

Please note that protecting our players is our number one priority and all volunteers must provide background clearance information as required by PA State law and Little League International.  Information of background clearances can be found on our website (here).

2019 Little League Summer Tournament Reminder:

As we begin preparation for the upcoming season, please keep in mind that players may have an opportunity to participate in one of the Little League summer tournaments.  The Little League International tournament teams will begin practicing June 1st with games starting on, or around, June 20th and may last into August depending on the success of the team.  The District 14 Clarence Boyd tournament teams will begin practicing after the spring season concludes with games starting on, or around, July 15th and typically concludes by the end of July.

Participation on a tournament team is a great experience for players and their families.  Participation requires a commitment to the team and the tournament practice and game schedule so please consider these dates as you begin planning your 2019 summer vacations.  More information on the tournaments and how SYCLL selects players for the tournament teams can be found on our website (click here: tournament selection process).
