Team Placement and Request Policies

This is the procedure used in forming teams for the Canton Soccer Club recreational programs. This procedure is used for all players that registered and paid on time. If payment is not received by the last day of registration, that player falls into the “waitlist” until payment is received and may lose their spot on their former team.

Please keep in mind that our first goal is to place every child we can. However, we must keep teams as equal as possible in regards to their roster sizes. Although there may be a “spot” available on a certain team doesn’t mean we can place them on that team. We need to make sure all teams are equal and meet roster minimums.

Please remember - Coaches can NOT offer spots!!! Placement is done at the League Coordinator level for the scenarios mentioned above.

Adult & Child - U8

Requests for specific teams are NOT taken at these levels! You may request not to be on a specific team, but you can’t request a specific team.
New players are then placed onto teams. A new player is someone that did not play the previous season. If you missed the last season, you are considered “new” again. A birth certificate is only required for new players that have never played for the Canton Soccer Club recreational program before.
Waitlists are then taken to fill-in any available spots on these teams.
Play-up requests are taken last and are on a first-come first-serve basis as we have to place all “true” ages to the appropriate age group first. For more information on this process please click HERE.

WSSL (U9-U18)

First, all returning (or continuing) players requesting to return to the same team from the previous season are placed first.

Requests for specific teams are only taken at the WSSL level and are on a first-come first-serve basis after all returning players are placed.
Waitlists are then taken to fill-in any available spots on these teams.

The Canton Soccer Club reserves the right to refuse service and/or placement to anyone.

What if my coach does NOT return?

If a coach doesn’t return, our first priority is to keep the team together:

1. We will ask the team (if we have proper notice) if another existing member would be willing to step up and coach? If not…

2. We look through registrations of new players to see if any of their parents/guardians are interested in coaching or exsisting “co-coaches” that want to have a team of their own. If not…

3. We unfortunately have to split up the team. If we have to, we try to do it in as few “chunks” as we can. If we have 8 players without a team, we’ll look to put 4 on one team and 4 on another so that they have friends on that team.

Note* we do not take requests at the House (U6-U8) level. All placements are completely random. At the GLSL (U9-U18) we do allow requests. If you already registered and find out that a coaching change is happening, please email the club office at [email protected] from the email address on file with your request. Please make sure to note the player’s name in the request and we will update your registration.
