What is Darien Knights?
The Darien Knights is the Winter (November-early March) feeder travel basketball program for Hinsdale South High School.
How long has it been around?
The Knights was launched in winter of 2023. However, basketball has been a part of Darien Youth Club for over 50 years.
Who may participate?
Boys teams/Girls teams - anyone who's able to make the teams. Our doors will always be open to the Darien community.
What is the club's core goal?
- Skill Development: Improve players' basketball skills at all levels. Prepare players for the next level of basketball.
- Character Development: Instill strong values and character traits in young athletes.
- Community Building: Foster a sense of community and camaraderie among players, families, and coaches.
- Competitive Excellence: Balance competitiveness with a positive and enjoyable experience.
- Community Outreach: Give back to the community and make a positive impact.
When are the tryouts?
Tryouts are held annually in August. Tryout dates are typically posted by mid-June on our website and Instagram account.
How long is the season?
Our season lasts from the beginning of November through the first or second weekend of March. Teams will have their year-end playoffs in late-February or March. Playoff timing is contingent upon when our league reserves a gym for your player's grade level.
What league do we play in?
All teams are registered to play in the Dupage Youth Travel Basketball League (DYTBL). In addition to league play, teams will sign up for a few shootouts/tournaments. Shootouts are selected by each team's coaching staff.
How are volunteer game coaches chosen?
Volunteer game coaches are chosen through a selection process led by the Knight Basketball Director.
How much does it cost?
Participation costs, including uniform, are roughly $1000 per athlete.
Where does the money go?
Roughly 65% of the costs go to renting facilities for practices and games, 10% for administrative costs (insurance, website, advertising, scholarships), and less than 5% for operational reserves.
