Dear VAFC member families,
If you haven’t heard, Valley AFC (VAFC) plans to build a state-of-the-art soccer complex in Roanoke City, which project will start with the purchase of 31 acres we’ve been using for practices over the last few seasons, but we need your help to make this a reality. Today, we respectfully invite and ask each of you to join us by participating in our Kick-Off Capital Campaign, which will help finance the $510,000 property cost. Every member of our Board of Directors has committed to donate to the campaign and we believe every dollar counts. Attached is a preliminary plan of the project for your review.
From “Little Strikers” to Elite player development, VAFC’s programs embody our mission of “Soccer For All” and this complex will further galvanize that cause. The complex will be family-friendly with walking/running paths (possibly a greenway connection), picnic areas, shade/rest sections, and playgrounds. The complex will not just benefit today and tomorrow’s players, but our entire community as it will generate revenue and be another great reason to call Roanoke home. Many of you, having visited similar facilities elsewhere, have questioned why not Roanoke; well, now’s our chance!

Campaign donations are tax deductible, will be held in a separate account, and will not be used for normal operations. The entire complex will likely cost over $7 million and will be developed in phases, so there will be subsequent fundraising but it’s imperative that we own the property first. In addition to dollars, we really need volunteers to fulfill this dream, so please contact Gina Grey at 540-774-7272 to volunteer, especially if you have strategic fundraising, grant writing or real estate development expertise.
