Recreational Soccer

Welcome to Broomfield Soccer Club!  Below you will find information that is very helpful if you are new to the world of soccer.  If you have any questions after reading this, please feel free to email [email protected].  We are always happy to help!

Age Groups

Recreational soccer begins at the U4 age group, and runs through U15.  The U stands for under, but this can be a bit confusing. Starting in the fall of 2016, BSC began to follow US Soccer and FIFA mandates and use the calendar year to determine age groups, instead of the previously used school year calendar. The calendar year age groups run from January 1st through December 31st. When registering your children, please be absolutely sure that you enter the date of birth correctly and that they are registered in the correct age group.  All players are asked to play in their own age group as each program provides its own unique set of skills for player development.

From U4 through U8, all games are played against other teams from within the Broomfield Soccer Club.  At U8 or U9, players transition into one of two programs, our traditional recreational soccer program, or our accelerated development program, Select.  Teams begin to play other clubs, and you have several options having to do with commitment level, skill level, etc. Once players get to U11, competitive soccer begins!  Most players go the competitive soccer route, but some do choose to continue with recreational soccer, which BSC offers as well.

Calendar

The rec fall season runs from mid-August through late October/early November.  Registration for the rec fall season runs from June 15th through July 15th.  Late registrations are accepted after July 15th only in age groups with openings with a late fee.  After July 15th, the team formation process begins.  A coach's meeting is held in late August, after which you will hear from your coach for the upcoming season with all of the details (scheduleuniforms, practices, etc.)

The rec spring season runs from early/mid March through late May.  Registration for the rec spring season is December 15th through January 15th.   Late registrations are accepted after January 15th only in age groups with openings with a late fee. After January 15th, the team formation process begins.  A coach's meeting is held in late February, after which you will hear from your coach for the upcoming season with all of the details (scheduleuniforms, practices, etc.)

During the offseason, many players choose to play additional soccer.  Over the summer, one of the most popular choices are soccer camps.  To see soccer camps offered by Broomfield Soccer Club, hover over the Camps tab at the top of the page.  In addition, Broomfield Fives is an option for older players.  During the winter, there are many indoor soccer and futsal options available.

Rec FAQ's

I've registered my child, when will I be contacted by a coach?

In the spring, you should hear from your coach no later than March 1st.  In the fall, you should hear from your coach no later than August 25th.  If you are registered, and have not yet heard from your coach by these dates, please contact [email protected].

What is the refund policy if I've registered, but my child doesn't end up playing soccer?

For recreational soccer, if you request a refund prior to the closing of the registration period (January 15th for spring soccer, July 15th for fall soccer), a 100% refund is available, less a $10 processing fee.  Following the close of the registration period, a 50% refund is available until the end of January for spring soccer, and the end of July for fall soccer, less a $10 processing fee.  After that period, no refunds are available.  Special circumstances may be considered (injury, family moving out of town, etc.), but a child changing their mind is not considered one of these special circumstances.

We ask that you inform us ASAP if you believe that your child will not be participating in soccer, despite being registered, as this greatly affects our team formation process.

For Select and Competitive Soccer, no refunds are available.

How do I find our practice or game field?

For game and practice fields, we have a convenient field maps page.  If your child plays U9 or older, and you have an away game, we recommend using Soccer Fields of Colorado.

What is "playing up" an age group?

"Playing up" means that, for whatever reason, your child is playing in an age group older than what they should be according to date of birth.  It is Broomfield Soccer Club policy that all players will play in their true age group (birth year).   In order for players to be considered to play up in the spring season, they must be identified by the BSC Technical Staff.  We strictly do not allow children to "play up" at U4.  "Playing down" is not allowed in the state of Colorado.

What is the BSC policy on weather delays/cancelations, whether for practice or games?

In the event of adverse weather, the City of Broomfield communicates with Broomfield Soccer Club by 2pm that the fields will be opened or closed.  After 2pm, Broomfield Soccer Club is responsible for making the call on fields open or closed.  We work very closely with the City of Broomfield to maintain our fields.  This relationship is very important, so when fields are closed, we require that NO teams are out practicing or playing.  Once practices have begun, if adverse weather rolls in, we ask that coaches make the call as to whether to continue practice or cancel.  We recommend downloading the "Weatherbug" app, which has a feature called "Spark", which tells you the distance of any lightning.  If lightning is within 10 miles, we ask that you clear the fields.  If it is within 6 miles, clearing the fields is mandatory.  Please, always err on the side of caution when making this judgement call...no practice is as important as the lives of our players!

If games are cancelled due to inclement weather, we will do our best to make up all games.  We reserve 1 Saturday at the end of the the fall and spring season as a makeup day.  If more than one game is cancelled during a season, games may be rescheduled for a Sunday or a weekday.

What do I do if my player is injured playing soccer with BSC and requires treatment?
