Frequently Asked Questions

I know that AYSO expects us to have a volunteer job. How can I learn more about them?

  • There are many kinds of jobs in AYSO from those that include lost of outdoor time with the players (such as coaches and referees) or administrative jobs that help keep the region operating (such as Treasurer or Purchasing Director). To learn about available jobs, click HERE.

How do I manage my email address for Saratoga Soccer email lists?

  • Whenever you register your player or register as a volunteer, Saratoga Soccer automatically adds you to our email lists so that you can receive news and updates about the programs.
  • You can add or delete your email address from any list by going to the Email Signup link.

What does it cost to register my child?

  • For Players U6-U16 our registration fee each season is $180 for the first child and $160 for each additional child.
  • Players in our U5 program cost $130 and the parents are not required to volunteer as they are expected to participate with their U5 player instead.
  • The VIP Program cost is $50 per player.

How long is the season?

  • Fall Soccer plays its first games in Late August.  We have a 2-day SoccerFest event that weekend to give coaches, referees and parents a fun and no pressure event to work out the bugs for the coming season. The regular season begins the weekend after Labor Day.. The last games of the season are on early November except for teams that are involved in tournaments where last games may be different than the regular schedulet (See below for information on U10 tournament).
  • In Spring the first games are mid-March and extend thru mid-May and there typically are no season ending tournaments for the core program.
  • Always check the regional calendar for details under the Calendar tab on our website.

Are there playoffs or tournaments?

  • There are Fall season ending tournaments for all age groups except for U5, U6 and U8.   For our U10 players we have a regional tournament among only the Saratoga teams. That is a 2-day event in early November. The top team (or teams) from that tournament qualify for the Area Tournament which is December. In U12 and U14, there are Area standings and the top teams qualify for the Area tournaments in mid-Novemnber. Always check the regional calendar for details under the Calendar tab on our website.

What is a Select team?

  • A Select team is one where the players are selected thru a tryout process.  Saratoga Soccer runs a Club program called Saratoga SC which is designed to provide a more challenging level of soccer for players who have the interest, skills and abilities.   Saratoga SC retains the spirit of and organization membership in AYSO and embraces the Six Philosophies of AYSO. The focus of Saratoga SC is on player development, good sportsmanship and the fun of being part of an effective team.

In what age division does my child play?

  • AYSO age divisions are:
    • U5
    • U6
    • U8
    • U10
    • U12
    • U14
    • U16
    • U19

  • The division that your child plays in is based upon his/her age as of July 31st of the "Membership Year". The membership year runs from August 1st through July 31st of the following year. This means that your child plays in the same age division in the Fall and the following Spring based upon his/her age on July31st of the Fall season year. For example, if your child played in Under 8 in Fall 2014, they also play in Under 8 in Spring 2015 as Spring Soccer is part of the 2014 membership year.

What team does my child pay on?

  • Except for Select teams (See FAQ on Select teams), players in each age and gender division are distributed across all of the teams for that division based upon player rankings and age. In Spring soccer only, a coach may retain up to 5 players (including their own child) from their Fall team if desired.

What is a player ranking?

  • At the end of each playing season, coaches prepare a player evaluation based upon their season's experience with the player. That evaluation is used to create an average player ranking which is used in balancing players across teams.

What if my child has never played before?

  • If your child has not played in AYSO before, we use an average default player ranking and focus on age to help place your child on a team..

When does my child practice?

  • We refer to team practices as trainings as the focus of the sessions is to teach your player important soccer skills. The training days are set by the coach who is a volunteer and sets the training dates based upon training field availability and his/her work schedule.

What if my child has a conflict with the training schedule?

  • Because the schedule is set by field and coach availability, it can happen that your child may not be able to make one or both sessions during the week. Sadly, we cannot make player changes after teams are formed.

Where does my child train and play?

  • In the Fall all age groups up to and including U12, play at Congress Springs Park ("CSP") in Saratoga. Older age groups play at various locations on nearby area playing fields depending upon seasonal schedules. For information and maps to area fields check out our fields page under the "GameDay" tab on our website or linked here at https://sites.google.com/site/ayso2jfields/home.
  • In the Spring U5-U8 teams play at Redwood Middle School and other Area fields as set by the Area schedules. U14 and above play area Area fields as set by the Spring schedule.

What if it is raining on training or game day?

  • Most of our field providers (School Districts and City Parks Departments) are concerned about the condition of fields when they get soaked with rain. Each field has someone who monitors the field conditions and operates it within the guidelines given by the field providers. Check the Field Status Page (https://sites.google.com/site/ayso2jfields/home) for up to date status of fields and follow the instructions as they are described there.
