 DeMatha 1 - Wootton 0

This game was intense and went back and forth.  Both teams displayed a commitment to possession style soccer that resulted in parts of the match being fought over in the middle of the field.  At one point the statistician/athlete for Wootton commented that he had nothing to record because both teams were battling in the middle of the field.  Unfortunately, on a free kick a goal was scored that put DeMatha over the top around the 40th minute of the game.  Wootton played exceptional defense that kept us in the game and both our goalkeepers had some spectacular saves.  As long as we keep playing defense and being patient on the hunt for goals we are going to have one positive season.

POTG (Team Selected Player/s of the game):  Child, Johns, and Le
Coaches Moment:  Johns' double hit save while looking into the sun.

Quince Orchard 1 - Wootton 0

Another intense game that was played during a dreary midday at QO.  The game was wet and slick, with the ball squirting out and skipping across the field.  Both teams showed great prowess on defense.  We learned a valuable lesson on moving to the ball and playing with intensity for all 70 minutes.  Unfortunately, QO scored on a corner kick around the 65th minute of the game.  At that point, the Wootton boys kicked it into high gear fighting until the end.  One of the final plays of the game in the final minute was a corner kick that Wootton battled to place it in the net, but the QO keeper made the save.  We just have to keep fighting and showing this fight before we end up in the situation where we are down or trying to win in the last seconds of the game.  We are confident we can improve on offense and build more chances for our team.

POTG:  Fayne
Coaches Moment: The Final Corner Kick opportunity.  Remember to keep scrapping!

Wootton 2 - Damascus 1

What a game!  The Patriots out possessed Damascus in what had to be at least 75% - 25%.  We also had many opportunities on the goal, where there were so close, but couldn’t put it in during the first half.  In the second half we were scored on, but to our credit we did not quit.  We kept at it, moving the ball around until Sherf found the back of the net with about 11 minutes remaining.  The second goal came quickly right after around the final 10th minute by Sherf again.  It was an exciting game that came down to the wire and the boys made us proud to be associated with their season.

POTG:  Sherf

Coaches Moment:  Browning’s assist on the second goal.

Churchill 2 - Wootton 1

Another hard fought game!  The patriots scored within the first five minutes on a 35 yard shot by Child.  The Bulldogs looked stunned, but pushed the ball back hard trying to get a goal.  By the end of the first half the scoreboard unfortunately read 2-1.  All throughout the second half the Patriots calmed down and began to keep control of the ball.  Shots were made and possession and momentum shifted our way, but we still had trouble finding the net.  In the final minutes of the game we made one last big push and the ball was bouncing around in the box, but unfortunately the keeper came up with the ball.  We were proud at how well you kept fighting to stay in the game.  If we keep playing like this more games are bound to fall our way.

POTG:  Johns, Fayne

Coaches Moment:  Child’s nonchalant goal that looked like he was just taking care of business.

Richard Montgomery 2 - Wooton 0

Another hard fought game.  We moved the ball well and passed well.  We just couldn't find the net.  Our guys never quit and almost scored many, many times.

POTG:  Zhang
Coaches Moment:  Zhang stopping countless attacks in the back.

Wootton 7 - Springbrook 1

This game sure was fun!   We passed well.  Shot well.  Locked down marks.  Give and go balls were perfect.  It was an all around great game!  It was almost like we had been saving all our goals for the season for this one game.

POTG:  Everyone.  No one could decide, since we had such a great game.
Coaches Moment:  Sunda blowing by the defense over and over.

Wootton1 -  Walter Johnson 1

Nothing is easy in Montgomery County Soccer.  We worked extremely hard and many moments in the game were being fought over in the midfield.  Around the 45th minute we scored on a corner kick that was beautifully executed.  It seemed like the Patriots were going to win the game, but then WJ split our defense and scored on a break away in the final 8 minutes.  We fought extremely hard in overtime, but still could not get the elusive goal.  The game ended in a tie.

POTG:  Johns (For making some spectacular saves)
Coaches moment:  The beautifully exectuted corner kick.
