Scholarship Opportunities

Scholarships

The money colleges award a student to help with the cost of attendance is provided in a Financial Aid package.  The Financial Aid package consists of two types of aid, need and non-need based aid.  Need based aid is awarded because of a family's "need" or income level.  Non-need based aid is provided because of a student's "merit".  The resources provided on the Savannah United scholarship page primarily reflect opportunities that are non-need based, or merit.  Occasionally a scholarship listed will be a combination of the two, looking primarily at merit (grades, leadership) but also take into consideration a student's financial resources.

The best source of financial aid, including scholarships, is the college a student chooses to attend. Colleges award scholarships differently, so it's important to pay close attention to the financial aid information individual colleges provide.  In some cases, a student may not need to submit anything extra to be considered for merit based aid.  In others, there may be a specific form, deadline, or other procedure to apply. Many colleges have scholarship deadlines that differ from their application deadlines - often significantly earlier in the process.  Students who work hard and demonstrate strengths in academics, standardized testing, and extra-curricular activities like soccer are strong candidates for merit aid.

In addition to the colleges, a range of national and local corporations and community groups award scholarships.  Taking the time to consider how large the applicant pool, how local the scholarship, and how large or how many the awards are can help students decide which applications to dedicate time to - time that for most club players is a precious commodity!

The Savannah United scholarship page posts occasional scholarship options that may be appropriate for competitive soccer student athletes. These are a sampling of the many options available, and you are encouraged to use the additional resources listed at the bottom of the page for more personalized searches.
