Select Program
The Savannah United National League / Classic / Athena / Soccer programs are designed for boys and girls in the 13U - 19U age groups who desire a highly competitive level of play. Our players are comprised of the strongest young men and women from all over the Low Country (Brunswick to Beaufort, Tybee to Statesboro). Our nationally licensed and certified professional coaching and training staff is proud of its highly competitive international and professional playing and coaching experience. United provides outstanding player and team development, which results in consistently fielding some of the strongest teams in the state. Our focus on player development is an ideal preparation for high school, college and the Olympic Development Program (ODP).
National League / Classic / Athena / teams train twice weekly, however every player/team has the opportunity to add another night of additional training each week, as well as SAQ training from our staff upon request. United's Classic / Athena teams play weekend matches against teams from other clubs around the Georgia area with an equal balance of home and away games during the season. Our National League teams play in the Regional schedule against teams from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee. Additionally, teams may choose to participate in various local or regional, or national level tournaments.
Because United is a Southern Soccer Academy club, there will also be opportunities for players to compete at the highest levels regionally and nationally with SSA Elite teams comprised of the strongest players from the southeastern United States (spanning from Savannah, to Northern Georgia and everywhere in between). These opportunities, by nature, are highly selective and a great privilege - and something that Savannah United is proud to offer its players.
NATIONAL LEAGUE / CLASSIC / ATHENA / PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS
Savannah United's National League / Classic / Athena / Soccer Program and its players make a mutual one-year commitment, which lasts until the tryout period the following year. While you are playing at United, we ask that you give careful consideration to absences so that the effect on other players is minimized. Regular attendance at practice sessions is encouraged and rewarded.
United expects players who represent the club to maintain high standards of personal behavior both on and off the field. We place great importance on academics and expect players to organize their activities to accommodate both schoolwork and soccer at high levels of achievement. We look to parents to ensure that their Savannah United players reach games and practices on time, to attend whenever possible with a positive attitude, and to participate in the running of the Club in some capacity.
NATIONAL LEAGUE / CLASSIC / ATHENA / PROGRAM TRYOUTS
Positions on National League / Classic / Athena / teams are competitively awarded and skill based. Savannah United holds open tryouts where interested players are evaluated by our coaching and training staff as well as guest evaluators from colleges and high schools. The skills, attitude and potential each player exhibited at these tryouts are considered when team positions are offered. It is the nature of these programs and inherent in the selection process that not every player will be offered a team position. We urge players who are not selected to take advantage of Savannah United’s Recreational program, supplemental training opportunities, and soccer camps to advance their skills and prepare for next year’s tryouts.
