While registration will last until Labor Day, we will begin to form teams on August 20th. This is the date of the League scheduling meeting. At this point, we will lock the number of teams and there is a chance we will close registration at that point. So if your daughter is interested in playing this fall, I suggest you sign her up no later than August 19th.
8U and 10U- We will form as many teams as we have players for. There are no tryouts, rosters will be set randomly, and there is no requirement to play beyond this season.
12U and 14U- Each division will have tryouts for the 2017 District team (more info below.) The girls that make these teams will play with each other this fall. There may be limited opening come Spring for these teams as well. Girls who do not try out and/or do not make the District teams will still have the opportunity to play Fall Ball on a second team. These teams will be placed in Divisions according to their skill levels, and will most likely not compete against each other.
District Tryouts (12U and 14U): Tryouts will be held on Sunday, August 21st at CYO Field 3 for anyone interested. You must be registered for Fall Ball by August 19th to try out. If you cannot register for Fall for some reason, please contact me directly. There will be an alternate date for anyone who is away on this date. Please let me know if your daughter plans on trying out and also if she will have a conflict with the 21st.
Districts (8U and 10U): Tryouts will not be until the spring. Every year, we discuss moving the tryouts up to an earlier date. This year, we tried. However, the interest level in the form of sign ups was not there. Following the season, this was once again one of the most common complaints.
We are a rec first organization. This is the lifeblood of Sacred Heart CYO. Many of the teams we play in the summer do not have enough enrollment for a true rec program. Therefore, they practice throughout the winter and spring as one team. The only way to eliminate the competitive gap is to have tryouts earlier and to get in more District practice and scrimmages leading up to Memorial Day. To accomplish this, we need your help as parents to make the decision to commit to summer ball a little earlier next year. To help with this, I would like everyone to know that we plan on moving tryouts to the middle of March next year. This should give us a full extra month to ramp up. I will work closely with the rec and travel programs to coordinate schedules.
We will offer a second summer team at each level next year as well. This team will not start practicing until late April again. We are already working on a competitive travel schedule that will include many more local friendly games. More details should emerge this winter.
