About San Marcos AYSO

About Our Club

Mission

To operate soccer programs where young people can learn to develop a positive self-image, self-confidence and other positive character traits through their interest and participation in soccer, based on the philosophy of:

·  Everyone Plays (at least half of every game)
·  Balanced Teams (no stacked teams);
·  Positive Coaching (building confidence)
·  Open Registration (no tryouts, no cuts)
·  Good Sportsmanship (winning and losing gracefully)
·  Player Development (reaching the next level of soccer)

Like AYSO National , your local AYSO Region 127 is just as committed to bringing a quality sports program that offers more than just soccer. We feel one of the most important aspects is the development of our players' characters.

We are also proud of the fact that we have always offered free training to our coaches, referees, board members, divisional managers and parents. This training includes ways to promote Good Sportsmanship, Fair Play, and Positive Encouragement.

San Marcos AYSO has had a phenomenal growth rate when compared to other sports programs in the area. This reflects our total commitment to providing a healthy, positive atmosphere so our youth can develop skills and become caring and responsible individuals.

History of National AYSO

The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) was founded in Torrance, California in September 1964. That first year, AYSO's family include only nine teams. Today that number has grown to more than 40,000 teams within more than 750 Regional Programs.

Through AYSO, youngsters of varied backgrounds and athletic abilities are given the opportunity to participate in soccer.

AYSO's emphasis is changing with the growing organization. Although still concerned with expansion, our emphasis is now placed on the training and development of adult volunteers. That way we can be sure the Quality as well as the Quantity of our programs increase.

Organization

AYSO is uniquely different from most youth sports programs throughout the United States. It is a national program which has over 500,000 players between the ages of 4 1/2 and 18 years old. AYSO is currently supported by more than 200,000 volunteers. AYSO programs work because our volunteers work and they believe in the programs. Our phenomenal growth reflects AYSO's commitment to a healthy, competitive atmosphere for youth soccer players.

The management structure of AYSO is as follows: The country is broken up into sections. Each of the Sections is broken up into Areas. Then each of the Areas is broken up into Regions. San Marcos AYSO is located in Section 11, Area R, Region 127. Region 127 provides soccer to children in the North County portion of San Diego. Each Section and Area have a Director. Each Region is operated by a Board of Directors. It is the responsibility of these Directors to meet the needs of the program.

History of San Marcos AYSO

Gerhard Sagasser and a handful of interested parents gave San Marcos its soccer start with 292 players on 22 teams. In December 1978, San Marcos had enough players to become a chartered region of AYSO, known as Region 127. In the 1990's, San Marcos AYSO averaged over 875 players and 76 teams.

A Spring Indoor Season was added to our program in 1994 with 200 players on 18 teams. In 1996, San Marcos AYSO registered over 1,000 children, formed the first Spring Select Traveling Program, participated in tournaments, and provided diversified year-round program. In 1997, San Marcos AYSO participated in Area All-Star Play. In 1998, San Marcos AYSO had 1250 players. AYSO is a grass root non-profit organization, dedicated to teaching youth soccer and to the development of caring and concerned American Citizens.

San Marcos Matrix

San Marcos AYSO also competes in the San Diego County Presidio League through our Matrix club program. Matrix is a good option for those players whose skills are above many of their peers or for those children who want a more competitive program. You can find more details at the San Marcos Matrix website.
