LK Davidson Sculling

Our Fleet

The LK Davidson Sculling Co-op fleet is located at the Lake Davidson Nature Preserve
(800 block of Jetton St, Davidson) on Racks O, P and RowAmerica and consists of recreational and racing singles, a double, a quad, a kayak, two paddle boards and a pedal boat.

1x Recreational: Carla Jenkins Edon (<240lbs). Named in honor of LKNIR Co-founder Carla Jenkins, this light, fast and easy to row shell is made of tough polyethylene -- ideal for the Nature Preserve racks.  Removable pontoons are available to keep it even more stable for learning or when rowing in cold weather. This shell is stored unrigged on kayak rack O.

1x Recreational: Coach Steve Schreiner Pro Am Elite (145 lbs+).
Named in honor of Steve Schreiner to recognize his countless hours of volunteer coaching, this is a new breed of advanced crossover rowing craft. The Carbon Fiber shell combines the world of an extremely fast open water shell with the world of a forgiving flat water shell with a bit more stability. The racy lines and high-tech components allow rowers to advance their skills far beyond those achieved in traditional open water designs, and can generate speeds found in competitive sculls without sacrificing ruggedness and stability.

1x Recreational:Community School of Davidson (CSD) Maas Carbon 24 (145 - 240 lbs).  Designed to be the fastest boat a sculler could row in open water, it offers recreational scullers on LK Davidson the feel of a racing shell with the stability of a recreational shell. In all water conditions the Maas 24 provides immediate response to changes in technique. It rewards proficiency with exhilarating performance and for many of us, that is what sculling is all about.

1x Recreational Lightweight: Maas Flyweight (<140lbs).
Designed as a high performance open water racer. For light rowers the Flyweight is substantially faster than any other open water shell, including the Maas 24. The Flyweight is also an exciting and responsive shell for advanced recreational rowers and an excellent trainer for flat water racers. The hull shape, foot stretcher and cockpit size, and rigging geometry are all scaled specifically for rowers under 140 lbs.

1x Racing Heavyweight: Gordon Smith 2.0 Levator (180 lbs+). Named in honor of boatman extraordinaire and founding co-op member Gordon Smith, this boat was custom built for Gordon who generously donated to the co-op.  It is lightweight, fast and rows beautifully. The hull shape, foot stretcher and cockpit size, and rigging geometry are all scaled specifically for tall rowers over 180 lbs.

1x Racing Midweight: Davidson Davidson Land Conservancy/Parks & Recreation Green Peinert (150 - 220 lbs).
The Peinert 26 brings elite performance and weight to a durable, affordable shell. True monocoque construction provides superior bow to stern stiffness for racing. Careful placement of the seat and foot stretchers lowers the rower's center of gravity to make this a fast hull that is never-the-less comfortable and easy to balance. Its durable 40% Kevlar / 60% carbon construction allows you to shrug off the occasional collisions with underwater hazards. Easy to launch as rigged boat weighs only 33 lbs.

1x Racing Midweight: Red Peinert (150 - 220 lbs).
Ideal for rowers 150 to 210 pounds. Easy to launch as rigged boat weighs only 33 lbs.

1x Racing Lightweight:Chris & Lou Berl Periwinkle Peinert (110 - 160 lbs).
Designed to be the fastest possible racing shell for lightweight rowers, the Peinert 25x maintains the ruggedness and stability of the classic Peinert 26, with a superior bow to stern stiffness for racing. It has a narrow hull for speed and a low profile to minimize the effect of cross winds. It is comfortable and easy to balance. Its durable 30% Kevlar / 70% carbon construction allows you to shrug off the occasional collisions with underwater hazards.

2x Double: Nevertheless, They Persisted.
