Travel FAQ

Travel FAQ

  • Why is Travel the only option for Grade 3-8?
    • Intown soccer is offered for pre-K to 2nd grade players. For NVYSL, the league TAYSA is part of, Travel soccer starts in 3rd grade. Travel soccer allows players to experience a higher level of play. Matches are set for teams to have a competitive balance, which helps players increase their skill. Because NVYSL has a large number of teams, these matches are possible.
  • How far do teams travel?
    • NVYSL consists of 21 clubs ranging from close by (Pepperell) to up to 45 min away (Berlin) from the center of Townsend. To see a list of all of the towns, go to https://nvysl.org/organizations.
  • What is the commitment for Travel Soccer?
    • Players attend practices 2 nights a week and play a travel game Saturday for 8 weeks. Games are at the same time each Saturday, but the location changes. The exact schedule is typically released a week prior to the start of the season.

  • Does my child need to attend evaluations?
    • Yes. All players that will be entering grades 3-8 next fall need to attend evaluations to be placed on a team that is appropriate to their skill.
  • What if my player cannot attend their evaluation night?
  • Does my child need to attend evaluations if they will only play in the spring season?
    • Yes. These evaluations count for both Fall and the following Spring placement.
  • Should my child attend evaluations if they are not sure they are going to play next season?
    • Yes. Even if you are unsure, attend the evaluations. If you decide not to play, no harm done. If you do play, you will be placed on a team with players of a similar skill level.
  • Do I have to register and/or pay before evaluations?
    • You need to register, so we have a list of players coming to the evaluations. You do not have to pay for the season prior to evaluations. Your player must either be in the shopping cart or fully registered. If your child is on the fence about playing, please add them to your shopping cart and attend evaluations, so if they decide to play, they are on the correct team.
  • What league is TAYSA part of?
    • TAYSA is part of the Nashoba Valley Youth Soccer League (NVYSL). You can find their web page at www.nvysl.org.
  • When is the first game of the season?
  • When is the game schedule posted?
    • NVYSL publishes the game schedule for weeks 1-4 approximately 1 week before the season starts at https://nvysl.org/as_league/organizations/view/TOWN. Weeks 5-8 are published between weeks 4 and 5. The exception is for all division 1 teams (all HS teams and some more competitive travel teams), where the schedule is posted for weeks 1-8 at the beginning of the season.
  • When are team rosters posted?
    • NVYSL has a deadline for roster submissions each season. Team rosters are posted by that date, if not before. See the full calendar at https://nvysl.org/content/nvysl-calendar. We do understand that people would like to know earlier, and do our best to get the info out as soon as possible.
  • Why does it take so long to make team rosters? Evaluations were months ago!
    • Even though evaluations happened near the end of the spring season, players continue to register through August. Because there are so many late registrations, team rosters are not created until after registration closes, to avoid shuffling players from one team to another as more players sign up.
  • What if I have other questions?
