Player Requirements

The United Futbol Academy Under 8 Future Academy Program is for players who are 6 or 7 years old as of August 1st preceding the season. [For the 2015-2016 season, it is players born 8-1-07 through 7-31-09].

Candidates for the U8 program will exhibit the following:

·       Ability to focus at training and games.

·       Self-motivated with a desire to be the best.

·       Enjoys dribbling the ball and does not just kick the ball away.

·       Good athletic ability including agility, coordination and speed.

Ideally, players should be recommended for the program by their current coach, the Recreational Director or one of United FA’s professional staff. Players should have a minimum of 1 year playing in a recreational program. Parents who feel their players have the above qualities and have not been identified will have the opportunity to have their player assessed for placement.

Program Information

Cost

Cost will be $600.00 for the combined Fall and Spring seasons ($200 registration fee/$100 coaching fee per season). Parents and players are committing to the program for 1 year (Fall/Spring). This price includes the uniform kit.

Uniforms

Uniforms will consist of 2 game jerseys, 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of socks and 1 training shirt.

Training

Professional coaching (a paid Community Coach) for all training sessions, practices and games. Training will be twice a week for 1.5 hours per session. The training location will be Yahoola Creek Park. Games will be at Rock Creek Park and Yahoola Creek Park (and may be at Fowler Park). Our goal is to develop a program at each location. Each location (Forsyth, Dawson and Lumpkin) will train independently and come together for weekend games. Training sessions will be conducted by a nationally-licensed trainer with a focus on ball mastery, developing 1v1 skills (primarily), and then progressing to 2v1, 2v2 skills, etc. Our goal is to maintain a ratio of 1 trainer to every 8-10 players.

Games

Games will be on Saturday or Sunday in the afternoon and played within the entire U8 Future Academy group; that is, all players in the groups from each training location. The game format will be 3v3 up to 5v5 in the Fall. As players progress, the Spring format will be flexible to allow some 6v6 games to prepare for U9 Academy. The small-sided game format is used to enhance the number of touches a player will get during a game.

Players will not be placed on “teams” in the traditional sense. They will belong to a pool of players and can be placed on teams using a variety of criteria such as current level of play, randomly chosen teams, or mixing boys and girls, to name a few.

Additional games will be scheduled against other local clubs. It is also a possibility that we will play in the United FA Fall Classic Tournament in November 2016 if the appropriate level of competition is available. An end of the season tournament in May 2017 will also be considered. There are additional fees for tournament participation which are not included in the tuition.

There will not be a team camp in August for the U8 players. Practices will begin at the same time as the Academy teams, early August.

Special Note for Parents

This program is not going to be for everyone as it goes against some of the current traditions regarding team formation and game day events. In the past, U8 players were scheduled to play in the U10 recreational league. This program will not participate in the recreational league in the Fall, but there is a possibility of participating in the recreational league in the Spring depending on player needs.

If you are only focused on winning or how many goals your player scores, then this program will more than likely not be a good fit for your needs. The program is designed to provide what is best for individual player development. No coaching will be allowed from the parent sideline, either directed at your player or other players.
