Every season, there are families who wish to enroll their children in baseball, softball, or tee ball, but financial constraints make it challenging to cover the necessary registration fees that fund our league. In an effort to assist as many of these families as we can, HLLA established the Tony Montavon Scholarship Fund.
Tony Montavon was a dedicated member of HLLA from its inception until his untimely passing in 2013. Known as a coach, volunteer, and the "umpire with the ponytail," Tony was a compassionate individual who consistently worked to impart valuable lessons to the kids on the field, regardless of his role. He played a crucial role behind the scenes, contributing to the development of much of the infrastructure at Purcell Park, making decisions as a board member and adviser. Tony's proficiency in Spanish proved invaluable during registration and throughout the season. His passing was a significant loss to HLLA and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. It is fitting that we honor his memory by ensuring that as many children as possible have the opportunity to step onto the field and "play ball!"
