Each season there are families who would like to have their children play baseball, softball, or tee ball but due to financial difficulties cannot afford to pay the registration costs we must charge to fund our league. To meet the needs of as many of these families as possible, HLLA started the Tony Montavon Scholarship Fund.
Tony was an active member of HLLA from its beginning until his untimely passing in 2013. He was well known as a coach, volunteer, and as the "umpire with the pony tail". Tony was kind-hearted and always worked to teach the kids on the field in whatever capacity he found himself. He was also important behind the scenes of HLLA in helping build much of the infrastructure we have at Purcell Park and helping make decisions as a board member and adviser. His fluency in Spanish was very helpful both at registration and throughout the season. His death was a great loss to HLLA and to all who knew him. It is appropriate that we honor his memory by making sure as many kids as possible can get on the field and "play ball!"
