St. Edward CYO Eligibility Requirements

IMPORTANT NOTE ON ST. EDWARD CYO ELIGIBILITY
To be a part of a St. Edward CYO team, your athlete must meet one of the following eligibility requirements as set forth by the Oakland Diocese:

  • Enrolled as a student of St. Edward School
  • Enrolled in St. Edward Parish Faith Formation
  • Reside within the St. Edward Parish boundaries, which is within the city of Newark, but north of Mowry Avenue.
    • Newark residents south of Mowry Avenue are within the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish boundaries and are ineligible to join St. Edward CYO, but are eligible to join OLG CYO.

Registration for 2019 Girls Basketball

Registration for the 2019 Girls Basketball Season starts Saturday, December 1, 2018 and ends Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

The Registration Fee for the 2019 Girls Basketball Season is $150. 


During the registration period, please fill out the ONLINE REGISTRATION form, which consists of the following:

  1. CYO Parental Permission and Health Authorization Form
  2. CYO Code of Conduct and Social Media Agreement Form
  3. CYO Concussion Information Sheet
  4. Participants NOT enrolled in either St. Edward School or Faith Formation must also:
    a.  Upload a copy of Birth Certificate if you are a new player
    b.  Upload a copy of current PG&E bill showing address within the St. Edward boundaries 
    c.  Confirm they live within the St. Edward parish boundaries, as established by the Bishop of Oakland.  
    NOTE: The parish boundaries for St. Edward are the Newark city limits in the North, West and East.  The Southern boundary is  Mowry Avenue (Newark residents living south of Mowry Avenue are in the parish boundaries for Our Lady of Guadalupe).

General Program Information

  • Basketball is open to grades 3-8.  If your child played for the CYO BOYS Basketball program in the Fall of the current school year, then she is not eligible to play for the CYO Girls program the same school year.
  • Participants must attend St. Edward School, St. Edward Parish Faith Formation, or reside within St. Edward Parish boundaries.
  • Practices are typically 2 days a week, and begin the first week of February.
  • The season games begin the first week of March and are held on Saturdays and/or Sundays at various locations throughout Southern Alameda County.  However, some games may be held during the week, depending on scheduling conflicts and available gyms.

Practice Schedules

Place: Newark Junior High School

Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays

Time (tentative and subject to confirmation by NJHS):

  • 3rd and 4th grade practices are from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
  • 5th and 6th grade practices are from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • 7th and 8th grade practices are from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm

COACHES' CORNER

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING

ALL adults participating in CYO activities must complete diocesan Safe Environment Training. Only an adult that has completed this training is allowed to run practices.

The course must have been completed after July 1, 2016. One can access the training at http://www.shieldthevulnerable.org 

TOURNAMENTS

There are various tournaments both preseason and during the season.  If you are interested in entering your team in a tournament, please contact the St. Edward Athletic Director.
