Saint Edward CYO Athletics

General Program Information

Registration is now open.

  • Track & Field is open to girls and boys grades K-8.
  • The season consists of 6 Meets plus the Diocesan Finals Meet for grades 3-8 who have qualified.  Most meets are held on Sunday afternoons.
  • Meet Events offered as follows:
    •  Field Events
      •  Long Jump: K - 8
      •  Softball Throw: K - 8
      •  Tetherball Throw: 3 - 8
      •  Shot Put: 5 - 8
      •  High Jump: 5 - 8
    •  Track Events
      •  50 Meters: K - 5
      •  100 Meters: K - 8
      •  200 Meters: K - 8
      •  400 Meters: 3 - 8
      •  800 Meters: 3 - 8
      •  1600 Meters: 3 - 8
      •  4x100 Relay: K - 8
      •  4x400 Relay: 5 - 8
  • Participants are allowed to compete in a maximum of 3 events (not including relays) per Meet, with a maximum of 2  events per category (Field or Track).  For example, a participant could compete in the 100m, 200m, and Long Jump (2 Track and 1 Field event), but they cannot compete in 100m, 200m, and 800m (3 Track events).

St. Edward CYO Eligibility Requirements

IMPORTANT NOTE ON ST. EDWARD CYO ELIGIBILITY


To participant in the St. Edward CYO program, you must meet one of the following eligibility requirements as set forth by the St. Edward CYO board and the Oakland Diocese:

  • Enrolled as a student of St. Edward School
  • Enrolled in St. Edward Parish Faith Formation
  • Reside within the St. Edward Parish boundaries in accordance with the Oakland Diocese parish boundaries tool map here as well as upload these documents:
         1) Upload a copy of Birth Certificate if you are a new player
         2) Upload a picture of your address from the diocese tool map
         3) Upload a copy of current utility bill showing address within the St. Edward boundary

Meet & Practice Schedules

General Meet Information
  • The season consists of 6 Meets plus the Diocesan Finals Meet for grades K-8 who have qualified. 
  • All but two of the Meets are held on Sunday afternoons.

General Practice Information:

  • Practices begin in early February, and are typically 2 days a week, and an hour in duration.
  • All practices are at the Newark Memorial High School Track.
  • NMHS is generous to let us use their facility, but we do NOT have first priority to use the track. If the track is being used when you arrive for practice please remind your child to stay off the track until it is clear. If the track is being used during our practice time we will be using to blacktop (basketball courts) to hold practice until the track is free to use.

ASSISTANT COACHES NEEDED

Help needed to run practices and meets.  No previous experience required. 

Adults interested in assisting, please submit your volunteer application to the Saint Edward Catholic School office to the attention of Karl Sarino, CYO Track & Field Coach.  Please complete the volunteer application electronically and print it out - Click here for the application.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING

ALL adults participating in CYO activities must complete diocesan Safe Environment Training. Only an adult that has completed this training is allowed to run practices.

The course must have been completed after July 1, 2016. One can access the training at http://www.shieldthevulnerable.org 

Registration Track and Field

During the registration period, please fill out the ONLINE REGISTRATION form, which consists of the following:

  1. CYO Parental Permission and Health Authorization Form
  2. CYO Code of Conduct and Social Media Agreement Form
  3. CYO Concussion Information Sheet
  4. Participants NOT enrolled in either St. Edward School or Faith Formation must also:
    a.  Upload a copy of Birth Certificate if you are a new player
    b.  Upload a copy of current PG&E bill showing address within the St. Edward boundaries 
    c.  Confirm they live within the St. Edward parish boundaries, as established by the Bishop of Oakland.  
    NOTE: The parish boundaries for St. Edward are the Newark city limits in the North, West and East.  The Southern boundary is  Mowry Avenue (Newark residents living south of Mowry Avenue are in the parish boundaries for Our Lady of Guadalupe).
