NBUA Umpire Academy

Are you a teen looking for a job at your favorite ball park? Or maybe just a teen at heart looking to make some extra cash during the Spring and Summer with a semi-flexible schedule? Well - look no further than getting certified to be an umpire!

Scott Reynolds and the Nashua Umpires group are getting ready to kick off their spring training effort on March 3rd - See the note below and contact him at [email protected] to get signed up!

Classes start Sunday March 3rd for 6 weeks. 2-5pm at the Nashua YMCA each week, unless we can get on a field somewhere.

Training is for all ages 13 and "north". The Academy is 6 weeks - newbies and apprentices (years 2 and 3) should try to make all classes, but realistically need to make at least 4. We'll work with anyone who misses any classes to make sure they're comfortable with the material, whether it's rules or mechanics.

One "we're done with them" (or even before that), they can go to baberuthleague.org, go to the Umpires section, register and take the test. $55, and can repeat if necessary. However, it IS open book, and they should be more than ready after classes. (All Umpires need to be patched to work any Cal Ripken or Tyngsboro Summer tournaments so this is an important step!)

Cost is $40 for 1st year umpires, $30 for returning umpires or previously experienced umpires. When in doubt, they can or email Scott and we'll figure out where they fit.

Adults will be put on a "fast track" to get them to 70' games sooner, but we won't rush anyone. We want them to feel comfortable.

If anyone has questions or would like to register please email Scott - [email protected]. Payment is by cash or check at the classes.
