Track
Director: Zach Boehm
Track is offered for boys and girls in grades 3-8. Sign-ups are held in January/February. The season runs from March to May. No prior experience is required. Track events vary a little by grade, but running events, relays, the shot put, discus, long jump and high jump are all events.
Team Selection
Typically teams are separated by grade; 3-4 grade boys, 3-4 grade girls, 5-6 grade boys, 5-6 grade girls, 7-8 grade boys and 7-8 grade girls. There is not a limit to number of participants on a team. There are no tryouts held.
Meet Information
CYO comes up with a meet schedule at the beginning of the season and the coach will decide which ones their team will participate in. Usually 7-8th grade meets are Friday nights and 3-6 grades are Saturday morning/afternoons. These take place at various schools around the city. There is a citywide championship meet at the end of the season.
Meet times vary greatly depending on number of participants in the meet.
Participation Requirements
CYO allows participants to do a maximum of 3 events per meet.
Practices
Practices vary by coach but you can expect typically one to two practices each week. Practices take place at the track behind McNicholas High School at either 4:45-6:15 or 6:15-7:30 Monday through Friday.
Practice participation is not required for track but, like any sport, practice results in improvement. The more practices that can be attended, the better.
Coaching
Track depends greatly on parent coaches. There are usually 1 or 2 coaches listed as head coaches but many can be used to help. If you are interested in volunteering to coach please contact the Track Booster Director.
Additional information can be found on the CYO Website.
