Girl's Basketball
Director: Patrick Noone
Assistant Director: Tim Dorr
Girl's Basketball is offered for Grades 3-8. No prior experience is required.
All player parents must register & sign an official liability waiver form per child on the GCCYS.org website. Instructions can be found in the Links section of this webpage.
Team Selection
In most cases teams are separated by grade. Occasionally teams have 2 grades blended. The number of teams are based on the number of girls registered. We will make as many teams as possible. Typically this is 2-4 teams per grade. In grades 6-8, teams are created by skill level A, B, and C. Teams in grades 3-5 are balanced based on skill, positions played, height and knowledge of the game.
Tryouts are held in June, right after school is out. Players are asked to attend one or two tryout sessions. These are mandatory in grades 6-8. Evaluators are used, and all skills are rated. (Evaluators are people who are knowledgeable about the game, not necessarily parishioners, and not parents of the grade being evaluated. Every attempt is made to have a number of qualified volunteers for this step to have the players placed correctly.) After tryouts, the evaluators and the coordinator create the teams and the players are notified by their coaches.
Game Information
All games will be played according to the new Greater Cincinnati Catholic Youth Sports (GCCYS) rules. Additional information can be found on their website.
Coaching
The archdiocese requires 2 adults to be at every practice. Therefore, we attempt to place 2 coaches per team. GA asks for volunteers from our parent community, the parish community, alumni, etc… Every attempt is made to get the best coaches for every team.
Parent coaches are permitted in grades 3-5. In grades 6-8, the A team head coach will not be a parent. B and C teams may have parents coach. If you are interested in volunteering to coach please contact the Girl's Basketball Booster Director.
