Football
Director: Dave Beiersdorfer
Assistant Director: Andy Camden
Football is offered for Grades K-8. No prior experience is required. Sign-ups are in the February time-frame for the following season. Practices usually begin around August 1st. The season runs from late August to November.
Team Selection
Grades 3-8 typically have their own team per grade based on the number of participants. If there are too few players for a particular grade to have a team, we will combine them with the grade above. The Bandit Program combines K-1 and has a separate 2nd grade team. These two teams may combine depending on the number of participants.
Game Information
The regular season has one (1) game each weekend for about eight (8) weeks. Home games at GA are now played on Saturdays. Away games could be Saturdays or Sundays. Games usually last for about an hour and a half.
Play Time Regulations
The GA Booster Handbook has the following playing time requirements for football:
Bandits K-1-2: 6 plays
Pony Team 3-4: 6 plays
Reserve Team 5-6: 6 plays
Varsity Team 7-8: None
It is expected that the coach will follow the recommended GA playing time unless there are extenuating circumstances. Such circumstances may include disciplinary actions due to conduct not representing GA, Catholic, and Christian principles, failure to attend practices, failure to attend practices in a timely fashion, failure to listen to coaches, failure to adhere to team rules, etc. More information is available in the GA Booster handbook.
Practices
Practices vary by grade or coach; but, you can expect, on average, two to three practices per week. Practices may be held Monday thru Saturday at the GA Fields. Weekday practices last 1 ½ to 2 hours and may start as early as 5:30 and end at 8:00. Saturday practices may start at 8AM and end around 11AM.
Players are expected to commit to the sport and to the school team and attend practices on a regular basis.
Coaching
The archdiocese requires 2 adults to be at every practice. Each team usually has three to four coaches and some additional parent assistant(s). GA asks for volunteers from our parent community, the parish community, alumni, etc. and we attempt to select the most qualified individual(s).
Parent coaches are are permitted and welcome. If you are interested in coaching please contact the Football Booster Director.
