Recreational High School 8v8 Program

For players who will be 15 to 18 years of age on July 31, 2015
U16 to U19 players will have been born between 8/1/1996 - 7/31/2000

Southwest Louisiana Soccer Club is now offering an 8v8 recreational program designed specifically for players who are in high school (U16-U19). This program provides older youth players with an opportunity to play soccer in a fun, coed, intramural style of play. Players are divided into balanced, mixed-gender teams, but train twice a week as a group with players from other teams in the program.

The Fall Season runs from August through November, and the Spring Season runs from March through May.  Beginning in October 2015, futsal (indoor soccer) will be added as part of the weekly schedule.

The 8v8 format follow rules that are similar to indoor soccer, but are played outdoors. The following modifications to the Laws of the Game apply to all games in this league:

   - Games will be played on a standard U12 field (with smaller U12 goals)

   - Games will consist of two 30 minute halves

   - Teams will play 8v8 (7v7 plus goalkeepers)

   - Games will be officiated by a single Referee

   - Substitutions will be made "on the fly", not just at stoppages in the action

   - A player entering the game must enter at the halfway line after a teammate who is coming out of the game has exited the field

   - Teams must have at least 5 players on the field to play (including a goalkeeper)

  - No punting or drop kick distributions are permitted by the goalkeeper; the keeper may distribute from the hands or put the ball in play on the ground

   - The offside law will not be enforced

   - No slide tackling is permitted; violations are penalized with an indirect free kick unless a more serious offense was committed as part of the same play

   - All restarts follow the regular Laws of the Game (including free kicks, goal kicks, corner kicks, kick offs, and throw-ins), but opposing players must be 8 yards away instead of the usual 10 yards on all restarts (other than throw-ins)

The overall aim of the program is to support the development of the players involved with scholastic based teams, regardless of the high school they attend.  The small sided format allows players to increase their spatial awareness, quick decision making,  and maintaining possession under pressure that translates to full-sided games. Small-sided games are played at a much faster pace which develop speed, agility and endurance.

At the end of the day though, the players will be looking forward to coming each week to play 8v8.  Not because it's making them better players, but because this is a social league more than a competitive one and they can relax and have fun playing with their friends.

If a game is a “blowout” by halftime (a 6+ goal lead), then we will consider that to be the final score.  Coaches will then shuffle the squads to make two new (even) teams, and play the second half with the shuffled teams starting back with the score at 0-0.

Commitment

The high school recreational 8v8 program is comprised of a U16-U18 player pool.  Our club is a feeder to local high school teams and the large majority of our players are involved with scholastic programs.  From October 27th to the district finals in February, players rostered on LHSAA affiliated teams should be aware of the rules governing their participation with club teams during the scholastic season.

This program, like all other programs SWLASC offers,  takes substantial time to structure, run, and administer; therefore it is intended for committed players who are excited about playing during the fall and spring seasons. While we appreciate that everyone has multiple commitments that may conflict and that changes can occur unexpectedly, we ask all families to do their best to consider their schedules carefully before registering. Withdrawals and changes can diminish the quality of the program for other participants and place an unreasonable burden on our administrators and volunteers.

Time Commitment

There are 2 team practices scheduled each week which are held in Moss Bluff.  Teams will schedule friendly matches against like-skilled neighboring club teams throughout the year on the weekend. Only if both teams are based in the immediate area will games be scheduled on a week night.  Futsal games will be scheduled for Monday evenings. Additional games may be scheduled on Saturdays.

Wait List and Refund Policy

If the demand for this program exceeds capacity there will be a waiting list.  Players invited to register from the waiting list will be notified by email and given a 24 hour period to accept and register or the available spot will be offered to the next player on the waiting list.  No one on the waiting list will be charged unless they are offered a spot in the program and accept said spot.

Refunds and credits generally are not given for any reason after September 1. Registrants after the close of registration will automatically be charged a $10 late fee.

Documentation Requirements

All players are required to submit a copy of their birth certificate. AS SOON AS YOUR CHILD IS PLACED ON A TEAM, you will be required to submit a copy of your player's birth certificate along with a current photo (headshot, passport style).

PLEASE DO NOT HAND DELIVER YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE TO THE COACH. This creates an unnecessary burden on our coaches. Being a volunteer coach is a labor of love and ours spend countless hours preparing practice plans and running training sessions. Our club's administrative staff handles all of the behind the scene work so that our coaches can do what they enjoy the most - Coaching.  A copy of the player's birth certificate can be send via email to our club Registrar or sent by mail to Southwest Louisiana SC, P.O. Box 434, Westlake, LA  70669.

You can upload a current photo of your child (headshot) on your family account.  This photo will be used by our club to create a Player Pass for your child.  This is important because the governing state body, Louisiana Soccer Association (LSA) we are affiliated with, does not permit allow a child to play without a player's pass and the club cannot obtain passes at the last minute.

Inclement Weather Procedure

Unlike many sports, we will practice in inclement weather.  With that said, if the weather is extreme (torrential rain, lightning, locusts) or the fields are deemed unplayable, practices may be canceled.

A text message and email will be sent to notify you if practices are canceled.. For this reason, please use an email address for your registration that you use regularly. It is the responsibility of the parents to make certain that your account information s correct.  The instructions to sign up to receive text message notifications is included in the email with your registration confirmation. Signing up takes less than a minute.

During poor weather, the Park Board will assess field conditions at 3PM and determine any closures at that time. Please DO NOT contact staff members about cancelations as we will notify all of our members as soon as we hear from the Park Board.

Did you know we offer discounts to our volunteers?

Our children and our soccer club thrive because of parental involvement.  As a non-profit, all-volunteer organization we recognize that parent volunteers are our backbone, and the skills and experience each one brings to our organization allows us to operate efficiently throughout the year as we grow.

We have many opportunities at the club available for you to apply your particular skill set. Each opportunity differs in activities and time commitments. Some positions are project or event based, and require a shorter time commitment, while others are longer term ongoing positions that will run the duration of the entire season. We need people like you to give some of your time, whatever works in your schedule, to make a difference. If you are interested in volunteering in some capacity, please fill in the appropriate Volunteer Application Form.

As our way of thanking the people who help our group operate, we will be offering discounts to individuals filling the following roles: Head Coaches, Asst. Coaches, Team Managers, certain administrative functions, and individuals who help with outside tasks (i.e. field striping).

If you are interested in volunteering for any of these positions, please fill out the volunteer application form during the registration process or go directly to the volunteer application page located here.

**Please note that some positions are expected to be held for the entire seasonal year (Fall and Spring).

The cost of registration is intended to cover ALL Club and Team related expenses for the year including tournament/friendlies fees and 2 SWLASC player jerseys (royal blue, white). This cost is based on the recommended number and type of events for each age group. No additional fees are required unless a team decides to play in additional events beyond the scope of their budget (i.e indoor winter league).  If that happens, teams can decide to conduct fundraising (with board approval) or collect addition fees to cover these expenses.

NOTE: Fees are based on the team that the player is assigned to and not based on actual age.

* A family discount will be applied for each additional child in the club.

Payment Info

  • Only the non-refundable club registration portion ($25) is due at the time registration is submitted to secure a roster spot.
  • The remaining balance is the team fees.
  • A  family discount will be applied for each additional child in the club.
  • If paying by credit card, there is a 2.8-3.4% charge to cover the credit card fees. Our club does not receive that money so it is not eligible for refund.
  • If receiving a "Volunteer" discount, please contact our staff in advance of checkout to obtain a coupon code to use in Blue Sombrero. This will ensure your registration fees are adjusted accordingly.
  • When registering online, Blue Sombrero will show the TOTAL fees for the entire year (Club plus Team) which is:
$95 for U5/U6 $95 for U7/U8 $125 for U9/U10 $225 for U11/U12 $225 for U13/U14 $170 for U15/U16 $170 for U16 to U19 HS 8v8
An initial $25 fee is due at the time of registration. Only players who have completed the online registration process and submitted the $25 fee will be placed on rosters in the order they are received.  We will not hold roster spots for any player. Our club will not sacrifice the quality of programs we offer for volume of members. The mission of the club is to provide programs that put the develop of the players first, therefore we form teams based on number of qualified volunteer coaches we have, not form teams then ask one of the parents to coach.  We want players involved in the game and enjoying the sport which doesn't happen if they are sitting on the bench, so we will only roster an appropriate number of players on a team roster to guarantee that players who have attended practices have the opportunity to apply the skills they are learning during match play. Once that number is reached we will only add players if or when a roster spot opens.

Players and parents alike should keep in mind that the older the age bracket, the more advanced the skill level of the opponents, especially during tournament play. Southwest Louisiana is one of the few areas of the state that does not currently offer middle school leagues.  More often than not players living in larger metro areas of the state such as Shreveport, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Covington are accustomed to playing year-round (full sided, 3v3, indoor, etc.) advanced level soccer at a very young age even at the recreational level.

All players must be registered with the Louisiana Soccer Association (LSA).  Only players who have a club pass or an approved guest pass will be allowed to participate with SWLASC teams.

During the check out process, the system will automatically assume that the full registration cost is being paid; however for your convenience we offer payment plans so the registration cost may be spread out monthly.
