U5/U6 Introductory

For players who will be 4 or 5 years of age on July 31, 2015
U6 players will have been born between 8/1/2009 - 7/31/2011

As a sport that incorporates constant movement, aerobic exercise, balance and eye-foot coordination as well as healthy social interaction, Bacon Bits is an ideal introductory soccer program to promote all round physical development in early childhood. Through the medium of soccer related fun activities and games we have created progressive curricula for young children which introduce the sport and develop age appropriate skills.

Our philosophy and methodologies are based on educational principles of how children learn techniques and develop them into skills while having a fantastic time!

GENERAL INFORMATION

Bacon Bits was designed to support our Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grader players who are excited about soccer and are looking to participate in a year-round high energy environment. This introductory soccer program provides training sessions focused on building balance, coordination, self-confidence, object awareness, motor skills, field awareness and help develop listening skills.

Our staff is dedicated to developing individual players no matter their level when they enter the program.  The ratio of staff will be kept small to ensure each player gets full attention from the coaches.  All a child needs is a pair of cleats, a pair of shin-guards and plenty of energy and enthusiasm!

Each session will be a jam packed 60 minutes of small games such as some of the kid’s favorites, sharks and minnows, stuck in the mud, red light-green light, Cowboys and Indians and the Blob.  The kids are all having such a great time they don’t realize all these games will help develop motor skills and cognitive abilities that translate into building solid soccer playing skills.

Please Note:   To register for the Bacon Bits, players MUST be 4 years old by July 31, 2015  (Sorry no exceptions).

This is a develop program not an in-house recreational league. Our staff of licensed coaches and former players all agree when young players learn the correct way to play early, they will not have to spend time un-learning bad habits later.  Sessions are filled with non-stop fun games that actually teach skills necessary to play the soccer so players will be happy, confident and sweaty kids who are eager to learn and want to keep coming back for more. We will MAKE every effort to schedule scrimmages and jamboree play, we cannot guarantee the certainty of these components of the program.

Commitment

This program takes substantial time to structure, run, and administer; therefore it is intended for committed players who are excited about playing during the fall and spring seasons. While we appreciate that everyone has multiple commitments that may conflict and that changes can occur unexpectedly, we ask all families to do their best to consider their schedules carefully before registering. Withdrawals and changes can diminish the quality of the program for other participants and place an unreasonable burden on our administrators and volunteers.

TIME COMMITMENT:  Teams will have 1 practice each week of the Fall and Spring seasons.  Games are typically scheduled on Saturdays, however it is possible that a game could be played during the week.

Team Formation

We do not hold tryouts for U-6. Teams are filled on a rolling basis.

Wait List and Refund Policy

If the demand for this program exceeds capacity there will be a waiting list.  Players invited to register from the waiting list will be notified by email and given a 24 hour period to accept and register or the available spot will be offered to the next player on the waiting list.  No one on the waiting list will be charged unless they are offered a spot in the program and accept said spot.

Refunds and credits generally are not given for any reason after September 1. Registrants after the close of registration will automatically be charged a $10 late fee.

Documentation Requirements

AS SOON AS YOUR CHILD IS PLACED ON A TEAM, you will be required to submit a copy of your player's birth certificate along with a current photo (headshot, passport style).

PLEASE DO NOT HAND DELIVER YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE TO THE COACH. This creates an unnecessary burden on our coaches. Being a volunteer coach is a labor of love and ours spend countless hours preparing practice plans and running training sessions. Our club's Registrar handles all of the behind the scene work so that our coaches can do what they enjoy the most - Coaching.  A copy of the player's birth certificate can be send via email to our club Registrar or sent by mail to Southwest Louisiana SC, P.O. Box 434, Westlake, LA  70669.

You can upload a current photo of your child (headshot) on your family account.  This photo will be used by our club to create a Player Pass for your child.  This is important because the governing state body, Louisiana Soccer Association (LSA) we are affiliated with, does not permit allow a child to play without a player's pass and the club cannot obtain passes at the last minute.

Inclement Weather Procedure

Unlike many sports, we will practice in inclement weather.  With that said, if the weather is extreme (torrential rain, lightning, locusts) or the fields are deemed unplayable, practices may be canceled.

A text message and email will be sent to notify you if practices are canceled.. For this reason, please use an email address for your registration that you use regularly. It is the responsibility of the parents to make certain that your account information s correct.  The instructions to sign up to receive text message notifications is included in the email with your registration confirmation. Signing up takes less than a minute.

During poor weather, the Park Board will assess field conditions at 3PM and determine any closures at that time. Please DO NOT contact staff members about cancelations as we will notify all of our members as soon as we hear from the Park Board.

Did you know we offer discounts to our volunteers?

Our children and our soccer club thrive because of parental involvement.  As a non-profit, all-volunteer organization we recognize that parent volunteers are our backbone, and the skills and experience each one brings to our organization allows us to operate efficiently throughout the year as we grow.

We have many opportunities at the club available for you to apply your particular skill set. Each opportunity differs in activities and time commitments. Some positions are project or event based, and require a shorter time commitment, while others are longer term ongoing positions that will run the duration of the entire season. We need people like you to give some of your time, whatever works in your schedule, to make a difference. If you are interested in volunteering in some capacity, please fill in the appropriate Volunteer Application Form.

As our way of thanking the people who help our group operate, we will be offering discounts to individuals filling the following roles: Head Coaches, Asst. Coaches, Team Managers, certain administrative functions, and individuals who help with outside tasks (i.e. field striping).

If you are interested in volunteering for any of these positions, please fill out the volunteer application form during the registration process or go directly to the volunteer application page located here.

**Please note that some positions are expected to be held for the entire seasonal year (Fall and Spring).

Cost of Registration - $95

The registration fee is intended to cover ALL expenses (Club and Team) for the year, including 2 Southwest Louisiana SC jerseys (Royal Blue & White). The fee is based on the recommended number and type of events for each age group. No additional fees are required unless a team decides to play in additional events beyond the scope of their budget. If that happens, teams can decide to conduct fundraising (with board approval) or collect addition fees to cover these expenses.

The 2015/16 SWLASC home/away jerseys will not change from the 2014/15 season.  Therefore, any player who was a registered member of SWLASC for the 2014/15 season and does not need a new uniform will have a discount of $20 applied at checkout.  Siblings who have outgrown their jerseys may pass them down to younger players; however each player must have their own set.

NOTE: Fees are based on the team that the player is assigned to and not based on actual age.
* A family discount will be applied for 2+ players who are registered with the club.

If you will be receiving a "VIV" (Very Important Volunteer) discount, please contact us at [email protected] prior to checkout to obtain a coupon code to use. This will ensure your fees are adjusted accordingly.
