General Information
Unlike many sports, we will practice in inclement weather. With that said, if the weather is extreme (torrential rain, lightning, locusts) or the fields are deemed unplayable, practices may be canceled.
A text message and email will be sent to notify you if practices are canceled.. For this reason, please use an email address for your registration that you use regularly. It is the responsibility of the parents to make certain that your account information s correct. The instructions to sign up to receive text message notifications is included in the email with your registration confirmation. Signing up takes less than a minute.
During poor weather, the Park Board will assess field conditions at 3PM and determine any closures at that time. Please DO NOT contact staff members about cancelations as we will notify all of our members as soon as we hear from the Park Board.
The goal of the Flight School Jr. Academy Program is to develop the technical skills of young soccer players as well as teaching build commitment, discipline, leadership and work ethic.
The most important things about playing soccer at this age are sportsmanship, skill development, and children learning to work as part of a team. This program helps ease the transition from recreational play into the more competitive side of the sport. Good sportsmanship is expected of the players, parents and coaches. We are ALL expected to be respectful on our fields.
Please Note:
The Flight School Jr. Academy program is a year-round developmental soccer program and not a 6 week in-house recreational league. Through a collaborative approach with other area soccer clubs, our coaches will attempt to schedule a number of scrimmages or friendly matches however at this age level, the goal should be on "learning" not "winning" and we cannot guarantee their certainty
Commitment
This program takes substantial time to structure, run, and administer; therefore it is intended for committed players who are excited about playing during the fall and spring seasons. While we appreciate that everyone has multiple commitments that may conflict and that changes can occur unexpectedly, we ask all families to do their best to consider their schedules carefully before registering. Withdrawals and changes can diminish the quality of the program for other participants and place an unreasonable burden on our administrators and volunteers.
TIME COMMITMENT: Teams will have 2 practices each week of the Fall and Spring seasons. Games are typically scheduled on Saturdays, however it is possible that a game could be played during the week.
Team Formation
We do not hold tryouts for U8 players however we strongly encourage any player who is interested in becoming involved in a year-round soccer program to play at least one season of recreational league before registering for a club program.
Wait List and Refund Policy
If the demand for this program exceeds capacity there will be a waiting list. Players invited to register from the waiting list will be notified by email and given a 24 hour period to accept and register or the available spot will be offered to the next player on the waiting list. No one on the waiting list will be charged unless they are offered a spot in the program and accept said spot.
Refunds and credits generally are not given for any reason after September 1. Registrants after the close of registration will automatically be charged a $10 late fee.
Documentation Requirements
AS SOON AS YOUR CHILD IS PLACED ON A TEAM, you will be required to submit a copy of your player's birth certificate along with a current photo (headshot, passport style).
PLEASE DO NOT HAND DELIVER YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE TO THE COACH. This creates an unnecessary burden on our coaches. Being a volunteer coach is a labor of love and ours spend countless hours preparing practice plans and running training sessions. Our club's administrative staff handles all of the behind the scene work so that our coaches can do what they enjoy the most - Coaching. A copy of the player's birth certificate can be send via email to our club Registrar or sent by mail to Southwest Louisiana SC, P.O. Box 434, Westlake, LA 70669.
You can upload a current photo of your child (headshot) on your family account. This photo will be used by our club to create a Player Pass for your child. This is important because the governing state body, Louisiana Soccer Association (LSA) we are affiliated with, does not permit allow a child to play without a player's pass and the club cannot obtain passes at the last minute.
