The SWLASC U11/U12, U13/U14 and U15/U16 coed teams are year-round programs that specifically target 5th-10th grade players who have above-average to excellent skills and demonstrate the physical and mental attributes needed to be successful at the game. These teams are ideal for players who enjoy the competitive environment of tournaments and small-sided play; but for whom the substantial cost and excessive travel associated with joining a "Select" or "Competitive" team enrolled in the Louisiana Competitive Soccer League (LCSL) is not an option. While all of the SWLASC teams are recreational, players who participate with our U11/U12 to U16 teams are developmentally ready to advance after learning and being able to execute the sport's basic skills. These teams provide a fun-filled environment while teaching players the concepts of the game in a structured and disciplined atmosphere comparable to that of a "competitive" soccer team formed by the use of tryouts or selection process. Players and parents alike should understand that coaches require players to maintain a 75% attendance at scheduled practices throughout both the fall and spring seasons to be eligible to participate in tournament play.
The opportunities to play in this program are very competitive so the coaches will demand much more work out of their players. While FUN is still the main objective of this program, there is more emphasis on improving the individual and team soccer skills. All three teams will participate in tournaments and friendly matches against other area club teams which will involve weekend commitment from the players. The overall aim of the programis to prepare players to participate at the High School level.
Southwest Louisiana SC does not offer tryout-based teams; however due to the competitive environment in which U12+ teams play, all players are strongly encouraged to have actively participated in an organized soccer program prior to registration. Roster spots are filled on a first come, first serve basis.Although we will try to place every registered player on a team, the main objective of the program is to develop players. We will not sacrifice the quality of our programs for player volume. Based on the number of players registered for this program, spots available on each team and limited field availability, we may not be able to offer a spot to every player.
Teams are a full-year commitment from August through May. This program takes substantial time to structure, run, and administer; therefore it is intended for committed players who are excited about playing during the fall and spring seasons. While we appreciate that everyone has multiple commitments that may conflict and that changes can occur unexpectedly, we ask all families to do their best to consider their schedules carefully before registering. Withdrawals and changes can diminish the quality of the program for other participants and place an unreasonable burden on our administrators and volunteers.
TIME COMMITMENT: There are 2 team practices each week and some teams may choose to add an additional day of training. Teams will schedule friendly matches against like-skilled neighboring club teams throughout the year in addition to tournament play (2 during the Fall season, 2 during the Spring season). Tournaments will require weekend commitments from the families. Teams may also choose additional winter team training at an additional cost to those who participate.
AS SOON AS YOUR CHILD IS PLACED ON A TEAM, you will be required to submit a copy of your player's birth certificate along with a current photo (headshot, passport style). PLEASE DO NOT HAND DELIVER YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE TO THE COACH. This creates an unnecessary burden on our coaches. Being a volunteer coach is a labor of love and ours spend countless hours preparing practice plans and running training sessions. Our club's administrative staff handles all of the behind the scene work so that our coaches can do what they enjoy the most - Coaching. A copy of the player's birth certificate can be send via email to our club Registrar or sent by mail to Southwest Louisiana SC, P.O. Box 434, Westlake, LA 70669. You can upload a current photo of your child (headshot) on your family account. This photo will be used by our club to create a Player Pass for your child. This is important because the governing state body, Louisiana Soccer Association (LSA) we are affiliated with, does not permit allow a child to play without a player's pass and the club cannot obtain passes at the last minute.
Our children and our soccer club thrive because of parental involvement. As a non-profit, all-volunteer organization we recognize that parent volunteers are our backbone, and the skills and experience each one brings to our organization allows us to operate efficiently throughout the year as we grow.
We have many opportunities at the club available for you to apply your particular skill set. Each opportunity differs in activities and time commitments. Some positions are project or event based, and require a shorter time commitment, while others are longer term ongoing positions that will run the duration of the entire season. We need people like you to give some of your time, whatever works in your schedule, to make a difference. If you are interested in volunteering in some capacity, please fill in the appropriate Volunteer Application Form.
As our way of thanking the people who help our group operate, we will be offering discounts to individuals filling the following roles: Head Coaches, Asst. Coaches, Team Managers, certain administrative functions, and individuals who help with outside tasks (i.e. field striping).
If you are interested in volunteering for any of these positions, please fill out the volunteer application form during the registration process or go directly to the volunteer application page located here.
**Please note that some positions are expected to be held for the entire seasonal year (Fall and Spring).
Black shorts Black socks *Cleats and shin guards must be worn to all practices and games
The cost of registration is intended to cover ALL Club and Team related expenses for the year including tournament/friendlies fees and 2 SWLASC player jerseys (royal blue, white). This cost is based on the recommended number and type of events for each age group. No additional fees are required unless a team decides to play in additional events beyond the scope of their budget (i.e indoor winter league). If that happens, teams can decide to conduct fundraising (with board approval) or collect addition fees to cover these expenses. NOTE: Fees are based on the team that the player is assigned to and not based on actual age. * A family discount will be applied for each additional child in the club.
