Any adult who wishes to volunteer for MBR and will have direct contact with the players during games and/or practices is required by Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Baseball to submit to a criminal background check. 

FAQs:

Q:  I'm not going to be a coach, but want to help out by keeping score or being in the dugout during games/practices.  Do I need a background check?
A:  Yes.  You will need a background check on file with MBR.

Q:  Can I submit my own background check that I had done independently?
A:  No.  MBR cannot accept any outside background checks.

Q:  Does the background check cost me anything?
A:  No.  MBR does not charge for this service.

Q:  Who performs the background check and how long is it good for?
A:  Babe Ruth has partnered with First Advantage to provide all Charters with professional background checking services.  The checks are good for a period of 2 years.  After that time a new form will need to be filled out and submitted.

Q:  Is this a credit check?
A:  Absolutely NOT.  This is a criminal background check only.  We do not run a credit report.

Q:  Are the results of the report made public?
A:  No, the results are kept confidential between the Midlakes Babe Ruth Board and the applicant.

Q:  Can I get a copy of my report?
A:  Yes, a copy can be provided upon request, free of charge.

Q:  I don't have a child in the program.  Can I still apply to volunteer?
A:  Absolutely.  Having a child registered in the program is not a prerequisite to volunteer.  However, preference will be given to a parent of a registered child if the same position is applied for.

Q:  My child's team appears to have someone volunteering that is not listed as a team volunteer.  What should I do?
A:  Ask you coach if the person has been approved to be a volunteer.  You can also contact any board member and they will be able to tell you if the person has the proper paperwork on file and take appropriate action if they do not.
