So You Want to be a Coach?

Thank you for registering your child to play St Mary's Little League. You have made a wise choice toward building lasting memories for you and your child.

Little League is an all-volunteer organization. In order for our program to be successful, it is essential to have a healthy number of dedicated team Managers and Coaches. It is not possible to provide your child the best experience we can without volunteers like you.

The Manager (Head Coach) is in charge of the team and provides the guidance and direction for the team. Additionally, the Manager runs the team administratively and is the primary contact with Little League Staff and team parents. The Manager will usually schedules and conduct practices and is the team leader in the dugout during the games.

Teaching kids baseball and softball skills is a shared responsibility between the Manager and Coaches.

Experience has shown parents are often reluctant to volunteer up front to be a Manager or Coach, but once the team is formed, the weather warms up, and the kids are out on the practice field, reluctant parents become willing volunteers.

If you are uncertain of your baseball coaching skills, St Mary's Little League provides coaching clinics prior to the season, check our website for posted information.

Additionally, there are lots and lots of resources available in books and websites that we have post on our website, just go to the COACHES tab on our homepage to check them out.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime.

Thank You.

Positive Coaching

Positive Coaching Alliance

One of our initiatives this year is partnering with the Positive Coaching Alliance. For those unaware, Positive Coaching Alliance is a national non-profit developing “Better Athletes, Better People” by working to provide all youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience.

If you have any questions regarding the PCA and their workshops please reach out to our board, e-mail our Coaching Coordinator, Anthony Beamon, at [email protected]. We would be happy to share with you how excited we are about this partnership and all the positive things it will bring to our league.
