Interested in coaching and want to know more about the responsibilities of a coach?
Coaches are encouraged to attend one of the 2 hour training sessions offered in April, see training/equipment handout tab for more details of dates/times.
At least one coach from each team will need to come to equipment handout in April to get the equipment bag for the team and the coach's shirts. (If coach is not able to make it, please share shirt sizes so coach attending can pick up for you.)
Starting in May, most teams will have 2 practices a week, usually around an hour long, held on same night of week that games will be held later in the season. Exact schedule is up to the coaches and typically held at a park or school with available green space. A survey is sent by the DPRYS board to give coaches an idea of what's available for practices so not everyone picks the same location on the same night and time.
Once the season starts in June, there are two games a week and no more formal practices. Season wraps up by the end of July.
Coaches collect concussion forms and medical forms and keep on file during season. For U12 and below, coaches coordinate treat schedule to rotate through players during the season's games, and head coach will be provided a check at the beginning of the season to pay referees at their home games. (Some teams have a parent volunteer that will help with the treat schedule.)
Our club of nearly 1700 players is run completely by volunteers for the board and coaches. Any experience level is welcome to coach, as training is provided. This is recreational league, so it really is about helping kids have fun learning the basics of soccer and team work. If you plan on attending your child's practices and games anyway, please consider signing up to coach. Can't make every game? We do have teams that share coaching responsibilities with more than one parent, or ask for volunteers to step up to help coach a game here or there.
To sign up to coach, go to "My Account", then click on the "Volunteer" tab in the account screen and select, "Find Volunteer Roles" to sign up. If willing to partner up with another child's parent to coach together, there is a place to note that in the volunteer registration and we'll be able to make sure your children are assigned together on the same team. Does your player have an aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc. that would be willing to coach them? The coaching role can be filled by those other than a parent as long as they are 18 or older.
