Maywood offers a wide range of Basketball programs from Clinics starting in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Beginning in 3rd grade through 8th grade players will play in organized games. Maywood also offers a competitive travel level.
MYAA Rec Basketball
Maywood REC Basketball is great opportunity for all children to learn the game of basketball. Although it gets competitive the teams are selected by the MYAA and coaches to establish the best balanced teams possible. This is done through a coaches evaluations of the players.
- Rec Boys and Girls starts in Kindergarten and runs through 8th grade.
- Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders are clinic style with one practice per week on Saturdays.
- 3rd grade through 8th grade is one practice per week and one game on Saturdays.
- All practices are subject to availability and coaches timeslot. Usually no weekend practice other than clinics Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
- Uniforms consist of team jerseys purchased through the MYAA , which are covered in your registration fee.
- Rec season starts around the first week of December and end last week of February. There are playoffs and championship games the last 2 weeks of the season. Trophies are handed out to 1st place teams in each division.
- Coaching opportunities are available for new and returning coaches.
Travel Basketball
Tryouts for all teams are held In early November. The Basketball Director and independent coaches run tryouts with no parents or coaches in attendance.
Travel is for competitive basketball players who want to better their skills outside of the Rec program.
Unlike Rec basketball, Travel does not guarantee equal playing time and is more competitive.\
Travel basketball has separate fees that apply.
Once a final team is picked, coaches will contact their players and make them aware of fees and practice schedule.
The travel basketball season starts the first week of January and runs through mid-March depending on playoffs.
Travel fees are paid in full by each player and vary from season to season. The usual price range is between 150 and 175 per player to cover league fees.
Uniforms are a separate purchase if needed and usually range between 70 to 80 dollar per uniform.
Fees can sometimes be offset by the MIT tournament.
Travel practice schedule is based on coaches selected time slot.
MIT Travel Basketball
- Annual fundraising tournament for all travel players.
- Proceeds go back into the travel basketball program to bring down the costs for the following season.
