Volunteer Information

Sheldon Little League cannot operate without the volunteer efforts of parents and community members. Like all Little Leagues, we are run and are operated entirely by volunteers. As such, all parents are requested to volunteer some amount of their own time to help make the league successful. Please allow Sheldon Little League to thank you in advance for your volunteer time, as the kids really benefit from your efforts.

There are volunteer opportunities regardless how much time you have to give. Maybe you just have an hour or two during registration to help our or you are able to commit to coaching a team.

Volunteer Opportunities

The following opportunities are available for you to select while registering your child to play Sheldon Little League:

Head Coach / Manager - The Little League manager and coach must be leaders. All must recognize that they hold a position of trust and responsibility in a program that deals with a sensitive and formative period of a child’s development. It is required that the manager and coach have understanding, patience and the capacity to work with children. The manager and coach should be able to inspire respect. Above all else, managers and coaches must realize that they are helping to shape the physical, mental and emotional development of young people.

The Little League manager must be something more than just a teacher. Knowledge of the game is essential but it is not the only badge of a Little League coach or manager. While an adult with training and background in the game is a desirable candidate for manager or coach, league screening committees should look for other important qualities. Screening of managers, coaches and others at the local league level who have contact with children is also important in attempting to discover those with a history of child abuse.

The heart of Little League is what happens between the adult manager/coach and player. It is the manager more than any other individual who controls the situation in which the players may be benefited. Improving the level of leadership in this vital area must be a continuing effort.

Assistant Coach - The Little League assistant coach plays a vital role to the team's overall experience throughout the season.  They help coordinate practice, handle coaching duties when the head coach isn't available, coaches on the field during the game and other duties as assigned by the head coach / manager.

Team Parent - Assists the head coach by communicating to parents regarding team activities (practices, games, cancellations, fundraisers, etc.), as well as, from time to time, communicating with the league board.  Person must be organized and be able to clearly communicate messages out to the team.

Team Manager - This person lends assistance in many aspects with the team - during gamedays, they might help keep kids in line on the bench, they might keep score another game, and they might help with infield prior to the start of the game.  It's a role in which many "hats are worn" and assistance is provided when necessary.

Other - Not sure how you can help? Select other and we will find the right opportunity for you!
