What kind of soccer club is Eastgate Soccer Association? |
Eastgate Soccer is a recreational soccer club serving
children and teens, from age 3 up through age 18.
|
|
What is recreational soccer? |
The purpose of recreational soccer is to provide an
opportunity for the participants to have fun, learn the
sport and develop life skills including a life long love of
the game.
|
|
Does my child have to try out? |
No. There are no tryouts at the recreational level. Nor are
teams formed by invitation or recruitment. As long as your child is in good physical condition, is fit to
participate in soccer and suffers from no physical
impairment that might be aggravated by said participation
they are eligible to play.
|
|
How are teams formed? |
Teams are formed by random draw. The draw is used to
establish a fair or balanced distribution of playing talent
across all teams. At the older age groups there may only be
one team for each bracket so the draw becomes irrelevant.
|
|
What are the age groups? |
Most age groups span 2 years. An example age group would be
U14. The "U" translates to "Under". So U14 means "Under
14s". The age groups are; U5, U6, U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and
U19.

will collect these from you at the start of the season.

Mariemont, Reading & Terrace Park.

|
Which youth soccer organization is Eastgate Soccer a
member? |
Eastgate Soccer is a member of SAY, Soccer Association for
Youth. Their website is
http://www.saysoccer.org/
|
|
How many games are played per season? |
League games vary between 8 and 10 games per season
depending on age group.
|
|
Is there a minimum amount of time my child will get
to play? |
Yes. SAY Soccer requires that all children play at least 2
quarters of a game.
This may not always be possible
if a child arrives to a game late or leaves early. If you
suspect this may be the case we ask that parents work this
out with the coach beforehand.
|
|
Is there a maximum amount of time my child will get
to play? |
There is no maximum. Eastgate tries to create teams with
enough substitutes to give children adequate breaks during
the game. But sickness, vacation, school and other events
may leave a team with minimal or no substitutes allowing
some or all players to play an entire game.
|
|
My child was just subbed out. Can they come back
into a game? |
Yes. Substitutions are unlimited at the recreational level.
Substitutions can only be made at specific points during the
game. See the Rules webpage under the "Referees" section for
more details.
|
|
How many players are there on a field? |
The maximum number of players on a field varies based on age-group.
This number includes a goalkeeper if the age group uses one.
The minimum number of players is also listed. If a team can
not field the minimum players the game will be forfeit.
Please let your coach know if you can not make a game, so
they can reschedule if the expect they can not field enough
players. The table below outlines these minimum and maximum
player counts as well as whether that age group uses a
goalkeeper.

How many players are there on a team? |
Each player must play 2 quarters of a game. This means
that the maximum number of players on a team
can not be more than double the
maximum number of players allowed on the field at any one
time. So team size varies with age group.
Eastgate wants every child to play more than 2 quarters so
we generally aim somewhere in the middle in hopes every
child will play at least three quarters.
Eastgate tries to create teams with
enough substitutes to give children adequate breaks during
the game. But sickness, vacation, school and other events
may leave a team with minimal or no substitutes allowing
some or all players to play an entire game.

My child's team is short-sided, will we still play? |
Possibly.
If the player turn out is
above the minimum amount of
players required the team will play.
If the the
player turn out is below the
minimum amount of players required the team will not play
and will forfeit the game (it will be considered a win for
the other team and a loss for the forfeiting team).
Please let your coach know if you can not make a game, so
they can reschedule well before game-day if the expect they
can not field enough players.

|
Why are there no goalkeepers at the Under 5's/6's (U5/U6)
age-group? |
There are no goalkeepers at the Under 5's (U5) and Under 6's (U6) level because
we want to see a lot of goals. We believe this is critical
to the confidence of younger players. Goalkeepers are
introduced at the Under 8 (U8) age group.
|
|
Are scores kept? |
Scores are only kept at the older age-groups.
Scores
are not kept for the Under 5's (U5), Under 6's
(U6) and Under 8's (U8).
Scores
are kept for the Under 10's
(U10) and up.
|
|
Where can I see current standings / scores? |
Scores are not kept for the Under 5's (U5), Under 6's (U6) and Under 8's (U8).

and above), as well as current standings, can be found here.

|
Where can I learn more about the rules/laws of the game? |

game of soccer please click here or go to the referees section of the website.
Please note that rules will vary based on age group. For
example Under 6's (U6) do not play with goalkeepers, have
throw-ins, corners, or offsides. If in doubt please consult
your coach.

|

NOT governed or organized by
Eastgate Soccer or Cincinnati Hills SAY and fall under a
different youth soccer program with different rules and
registration fees.

end, such as referee, tournament, field rental and teams

participate in fundraising, or, volunteer to paint field
lines or act as a tournament marshal. Eastgate Soccer does
not do this.

|
|
What happens if there is thunder or lightning? |
Whether it is a game or practice, if
there is a lightning strike or a thunder clap, the field
must be immediately cleared and cover must be found.
Game/practice will only continue 30 minutes after the
last lightning strike or thunder clap. A referee may call a
game as complete if two quarters of play have been
completed. If the game is called before two complete
quarters it will be rescheduled.

So what is the step above recreational soccer? |
Competitive soccer is the next step above recreational
soccer. Competitive soccer will typically require your child
to try-out, or, be invited or recruited to a team. The first
competitive bracket directly above recreational soccer is
called "Select" soccer. Above "Select" is even more
competitive soccer called "Elite" soccer.
Cincinnati
is home to many competitive soccer leagues and clubs. One
such "Select/Elite" program in close proximity to Eastgate
Soccer Association is
