Code of Conduct

BAYAA & GMYAA Code of Conduct: 

In order to ensure that the principles of sportsmanship, fair play, skill development, and mutual respect among coaches, parents, players and officials are the primary considerations governing competition with Greater Metro Youth Athletic Association (GMYAA), the following Code of Conduct has been established and adopted. All coaches, parents, and players by registering and participating in BAYAA and/or GMYAA activities are subject to this Code of Conduct, and understand that any violation will be subject to disciplinary actions, including suspension and/or probation by the Resolution committee of GMYAA. Coaches and Parents further understand that if they or any their guests are ejected or suspended, their son and/or daughter will also be ejected or suspended for the same duration. 

COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT: 

The coaches primary responsibility is to foster the stated mission of BAYAA & GMYAA which is to delivery youth athletic programs to the Iredell community that offer competitively balanced teams, emphasis on individual participation, and affordable and accessible registration and play. It is understood that youth sports should be a fund, rewarding, positive learning experience for all participants, and that playing time is key to providing that experience for their players. to meet these responsibilities, coaches will: 

1) Fully abide by the policies, rules and guidelines set forth by BAYAA and the GMYAA and ensure the timely completion of all coaching requirements
2) Respect game officials and refrain from communication with them in an abusive manner
3) Encourage GMYAA attendees to conduct themselves with sportsmanship and maturity at all functions
4) Assist the game officials in maintaining control of spectators during games
5) Be a positive role model for players by never using or tolerating obscene language and gestures, by never physically or verbally abusing another nor by discriminatory actions and remarket based on race, religion, gender or national origin
6) Not use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco (including vaping) of any kind at any GMYAA sporting event, including practices or meetings
7) Never bring weapons of any kind, whether openly or concealed, to any GMYAA practice or game

PARENTAL/GUARDIAN CODE OF CONDUCT: 

Parents/Guardians are expected to be a positive role model for all children participants and encourage good sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy to ALL. They should trust in their child's ability to have fun as well as to perform and achieve excellence on his/her own. They should help their child learn the right lessons from winning and losing as well as from individual accomplishments and mistakes. In additional, parents should understand they are responsible for their words and actions while attending any youth sporting event hosted by BAYAA and the GMYAA and will be held to a high standard regardless of the actions of others. They should also ensure the members of their household, family, and guests also abide by the rules and Code of Conduct of BAYAA and GMYAA. It is expected that parents/guardians will:

1) Inform the coach of any physical disabilities or ailments that may affect the safety of their child or other players
2) Learn the rules of the game and teach their child to play within those rules
3) Resolve all conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence
4) Never ridicule or yell at their child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a game
5) Respect the official and their authority during games
6) Refrain from coaching their child or other players during practices and games unless they are an official coach
7) Not use drugs, alcohol, and tobacco of any kind at any GMYAA sporting event, including practices or meetings
8) Never question, discuss, or confront coaches at an event, game or practice. Parents should wait at least 24-hours after a game or practice before speaking with a coach at an agreed upon time and place (24-Hour Policy)
9) Never bring weapons of any kind, whether openly or concealed, to any GMYAA practice or game

PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT: 


BAYAA players are expected to display good sportsmanship at all times and be a positive role model for their family and their team. All student athletes of BAYAA are expected to: 

1) Abide by the rules and guidelines set forth by BAYAA and/or GMYAA
2) Treat all coaches, officials, parent volunteers, teammates as well as opposing players and coaches in a respectful manner
3) Be a good teammate by supporting and encouraging the personal and skill development of all teammates
4) Resolve all conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence
5) Attend and participate to my best ability all scheduled practices and games and notify the coach when attendance is not possible
6) Inform my coaches immediately of any injury sustained prior to or during any practice and/or game
