Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Nor-Gwyn Baseball & Softball choose to affiliate with Cal Ripken Baseball?

NG is one of the remaining youth baseball programs in our area that is not affiliated with either the Cal Ripken Division of Babe Ruth League, Inc.© or with Little League Baseball, Incorporated©.NG felt that Cal Ripken Baseball offered the most flexibility to continue to provide a competitive program for our Tournament Teams without compromising our core values and our Recreational League program. We also liked that Cal Ripken is planning to create non-Tournament Team programs that would provide Recreational League players the opportunity to play baseball all summer.

What ages of players are affected by an affiliation with Cal Ripken Baseball?

Only our Youth Baseball and T-Ball programs, (ages 4-12 years), are affected by affiliation with Cal Ripken Baseball. Our Bux-Mont Connie Mack Baseball, (Ages 13-16 years), and our Lady Hawks Softball program, (ages 5-18 years), are unaffected by this change.

How will affiliation with Cal Ripken Baseball affect the NG Recreational Baseball League

There will be no changes regarding how NG will run its Rec League. It was extremely important to NG that we maintain our core values when it comes to running our Recreational League. We will maintain autonomy to run the Rec League as we see fit.

Does the affiliation with Cal Ripken Baseball affect the NG Softball Lady Hawks program?

No.  The NG Softball Lady Hawks program will remain unchanged.  Cal Ripken Baseball’s parent organization, Babe Ruth League, Inc.©, also offers a softball program.  However, there are no NG plans at this time to affiliate.

Will my fees increase because of affiliation with Cal Ripken Baseball?

No.  Affiliation will not impact Registration Fees. The fees associated with Cal Ripken affiliation will be funded from the proceeds of our annual Wood Bat Youth Baseball Tournament held each July.  As in the past, any future fee increases will be carefully considered by the NG Board of Directors.

What are the NG Baseball boundaries assigned by Cal Ripken Baseball?

The NG boundaries for Cal Ripken Baseball mirror the boundaries for our Bux-Mont Connie Mack Baseball Program.  This important distinction provides consistency for all of our baseball families.  Players who reside within our boundaries may play in a NG program throughout their youth baseball and Bux-Mont Connie Mack Baseball careers.

How will Nor-Gwyn affiliation with Cal Ripken Baseball affect the Nor-Gwyn Baseball Tournament Teams?

Only Nor-Gwyn Youth Baseball Tournament Teams & their players are affected by Cal Ripken Baseball affiliation.

NG TT’s will have the opportunity to participate in Cal Ripken Baseball District, Region, State, and World Series Playoffs.  This tournament starts at the end of June.

NG may now field 8u, 9u, 10u, 11u and 12u tournament teams who will each be eligible to participate.  All players must play at their age-appropriate level.

2018 will be a transition year.  Beyond 2018, players residing within our geographic boundaries must play for NG if they wish to participate in the Cal Ripken Playoffs.  (During the transition, players who are registered with another Cal Ripken affiliate organization may choose to remain with the other organization until age 13 or switch to Nor-Gwyn).

All other tournaments, including Cooperstown Dreams Park, remain the same.  Additional tournaments will be scheduled at the coaches’ discretion.

I live within the NG boundaries for Cal Ripken Baseball but play on a Tournament Team in another Ripken Baseball affiliate organization.  Do I have to switch organizations?

No.  During the 2018 transition period, any player who already plays for another Cal Ripken affiliate organization can be grandfathered in and may continue to play for that organization throughout their youth baseball career.

When the player reaches Bux-Mont Connie Mack Baseball Age, (13-16 years), he/she must switch and play for a NG Bux-Mont Connie Mack team.

I live outside the NG boundaries for Cal Ripken Baseball but play in the NG Recreational League.  Do I have to switch organizations?

No.  Geographic boundaries apply only to Tournament Team Baseball and Bux-Mont Connie Mack Baseball players.  So long as a player wishes to play only Recreational League Baseball, they may play anywhere.

Once a player reaches Bux-Mont Connie Mack Baseball age, he/she must play for the Bux-Mont Connie Mack Baseball program of the geographic area in which they reside.

I live within the NG boundaries for Cal Ripken Baseball but play on a Tournament Team of a non-Cal Ripken affiliate organization.  Do I have to switch organizations?

A youth baseball age player, (8-12 years old), registered with a non-Cal Ripken affiliate must switch organizations only if he/she wishes to participate in the Cal Ripken Baseball Playoffs.  Cal Ripken Baseball affiliate players may not belong to more than one youth baseball organization.

When the player reaches Bux-Mont Connie Mack Baseball Age, (13-16 years), he/she must switch if he/she desires to play for a Bux-Mont Connie Mack team.
