Volunteer Opportunities

The SCCBRL recognizes that, without the assistance of its many volunteers, our youth baseball league would not exist. The contributions of our volunteers is immeasurable. As a parent volunteer group, we have a profound effect on the experience of the young athletes in our organization and in the local community. Due to the lack of volunteers during past seasons, a volunteer policy was implemented by the SCCBRL during the 2017 season, similar to many youth organizations in the area.

Again this year, every league family will be required to submit a $35 Volunteer fee in the form of a check. These checks will be returned once the volunteer obligations have been fulfilled. Volunteer obligations will be fulfilled through signing up to volunteer during one of the many events during the season, from the opening Pancake Breakfast, Field Maintenance Day, Opening Day, Baseball Festival, Closing Night and many more fundraisers offered during the season.  More information on this topic will be provided at the MANDATORY parents meeting on Tuesday April 2, 2019 at 6pm at the Westwood Fire House.

SCCBRL Volunteer Fee Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why does SCCBRL have a volunteer fee?
A: As an organization, the SCCBRL was founded and is run by a group of dedicated volunteers. In order for our baseball season to be a success, we count on the support and volunteerism efforts of the many families that comprise our program. Due to past challenges in getting the necessary support needed to run our programs and special events throughout the season, the SCCBRL, similarly to many other local
organizations, implemented the volunteer fee in 2017 and have seen participation levels by families decidedly improve since that time.

Q: How often do I need to volunteer to have my volunteer fee refunded?
A: For 2019, we are asking all baseball families to perform 2 1-hour shifts of volunteerism throughout the season.

Q: What options do I have in terms of volunteering?
A: To provide as much flexibility as possible to allow you to volunteer when and how you would like, we provide numerous opportunities throughout the season for you to choose what works best for your schedule and interest. Options for volunteering could include, but are not limited to:

- Coaching
- Team Parent
- Assisting with our field clean-up day prior to the season
- Volunteering to assist in the many needed roles during our Opening Day (April), Baseball Festival (May) or Closing Day (June) festivities.
- Working a shift during one of our Flower Sale fundraisers or Pizza Pickup Day.

**Please note that we utilize a Sign-Up Genius system for tracking of many of these tasks, so be on the lookout for opportunities as we draw closer to the season.

Q: When will my volunteer fee be refunded?
A: As a change in 2019, we will be refunding volunteer fees throughout the season, meaning that the sooner you complete your volunteerism the sooner your refund will be submitted for payment. We will send a reimbursement check in the mail to the parent’s name and address submitted at the time of registration. Our plan is to provide refunds on a weekly basis in April, followed by a bi-weekly basis for the
remainder of the season.
