THE MT. VERNON OPTIMIST CLUB OFFERS A GREAT WINTER BASKETBALL PROGRAM!!!

SEASON SCHEDULE:
The season will run from roughly November 11th, 2024 - March 14th, 2025.  Practices will start the week of Nov 11th.  Games will be played on Saturdays.  Games will take place at McCordsville Elementary, Fortville Elementary, and Mt. Comfort Elementary.  Games will start December 7th. 


BASKETBALL OPERATIONS VOLUNTEERS:
We are looking for volunteers to assist as coaches, referees, coordinators to set up gyms etc.  Please contact Ben Hacker at [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering to help.  If you are wanting to coach or be an assistant coach just fill out the volunteer request when you register your child.  Anyone wishing to coach who has not completed a background check in the last 6 months will be required to complete one prior to coaching.


REGISTRATION:
$125 for season for Pre-K through 2nd Grade. $135 3rd Grade-High School. Multiple child discounts will be available. Registration ends Monday, November 4th at midnight.


GRADE DIVISIONS:
o Co-ed Pre-K & K (instructional / coach-officiated / side courts / 27.5" ball / 7 1/2' rim)
o Co-ed 1st - 2nd (instructional / referee-officiated / side courts / 27.5" ball / 8' rim)
o Co-ed 3rd - 4th (coached / referee-officiated / 27.5" ball / 9' rim)
o Co-ed 5th - 6th (coached / referee-officiated / 28.5" ball / 10' rim)
o Middle School/High School (coached/referee-officiated / 28.5" ball/ 10' rim)

COACHES MEETING/TEAM SELECTION:
Coaches meeting will take place TBD week of November 4th 6:30pm.  The meeting will take place at McCordsville United Methodist Church in McCordsville.  Please note, this meeting is for coaches and assistant coaches only, NO CHILDREN.


ROSTERS FINALIZED & UNIFORMS ORDERED:
All team assignments are subject to the Basketball Commissioner's review, and can be revised as deemed necessary.

PRACTICES: 
Will start the week of November 11th.  No practices will take place during winter break.  We will be using multiple gyms within the school corporation.  We will determine what age group practices and plays at which gym based on teams registered.

TOURNAMENT: 
Tournament follows game season. Excludes pre-K/K grades.  Schedules to be distributed by coaches, not posted on website.  

No practices or games will be permitted  on Martin Luther King Jr., Day, President's Day, January 17, and February 7th due to schools/gyms being closed.  If a school is closed for weather, then events (practices and games are cancelled)


VOLUNTEER CLUB MEMBERS:
Each Club Member can receive a $110 youth sports registration coupon per membership in trade, that can be applied on-line.  We need active adult club members to help as gym / site monitors, light prep & cleanup, and we may have limited concession sales this season (pending approvals).   If you are interested to volunteer and be a member, first register for the 2024-2025 Optimist International FULL membership program before you register your child in a sport (as the coupon must be issued by us then applied to a new, not already entered order).  To register as a MV Optimist Club Member, you will need to fill out an application that we will provide to you.  If interested, please email [email protected] and we will send you an application.  When registering for a sport as a club OI member, specify your are an active volunteer AND select a volunteer role.  Not indicating volunteer & role can result in no coupon being issued.
