REC TRAVEL FAQs
Recreational "Travel" is a pay to play division for players at any skill level beginning at U9. Players are registered and placed on a gender and age appropriate team (when registration can accommodate this). Our recreational travel league registers through the Western Suburban Soccer League (WSSL) which is the southeastern division of the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA). There are multiple levels of competition in WSSL. The WSSL league depicts your placement based upon experience as well as input from HSA’s travel representative.
Cost: Travel Program $165.00 per season plus the cost of a HSA uniform if your player does not already have one. For new to HSA or Travel players, uniforms can be purchased after registration has closed through the link to SquadLocker on our website under the links tab.
Teams We Play: The travel fields may differ for various reasons. WSSL is comprised of teams within a 100 mile radius of each other. History indicates that HSA has competed against teams as far away as Hartland, Hamburg, Fowlerville, Chelsea and Howell and as nearby as Taylor, Van Buren, Dearborn and Canton. Other members of WSSL have included Wayne/Westland, Garden City, Redford and Monroe.
Games: Teams typically play their games on Weekends (days and times may vary) but could have matches within the season during the week as well. There are 8 games included for all levels of our recreational travel league four home and four away.
Home Location: 23850 Huron River Drive, "The Cornfields."
Fall Travel Season: Begins with practices in early August and runs through the end of October.
Spring Travel Season: Begins with practices mid April and runs through the second week of June.
Winter Opportunities: Winter Travel Seasons at indoor facilities are available, these leagues are sometimes offered by the volunteer coaches of our league. However these leagues are not affiliated with our association and can be sought out individually as well.
Practices: As with other sports, the practice schedule is up to the discretion of the coach. Typically, travel teams practice 2 times a week throughout the season. When joining any team, players should be focused on improving their skills and team commitment. Showing up to practice is essential to building strong teams.
Practice Locations: HSA practices are held at multiple locations within the Willow MetroPark. You will find out your exact field location within the park from your coach once teams have been formed.
