Rec Travel Guide

Ready to Join Our Rec Travel League?

Our Recreational "Travel" League is a fun, pay-to-play option for players of any skill level starting at U9. It's perfect for those wanting a step up from house leagues with some travel games, but without the intensity of select or premier levels. Players are placed on age- and gender-appropriate teams where possible, and we register through the Western Suburban Soccer League (WSSL), part of the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA). WSSL has multiple competition levels, with placements based on experience and input from our HSA travel rep.

If your player is ready to join, here's a simple step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Create or Log In to Your Account
  • Login at the top of our site (or register for a free account if needed), and add your player's details.
  • Once done, you'll see all the registration options available specifically for them.
Step 2: Register Your Player
  • Select and register for the Rec Travel program that's listed for your player.
  • We'll handle team placements to ensure a good fit!
Step 3: Get the Uniform
  • After registration closes, purchase your player's uniform through SquadLocker.
  • If your player already has an HSA uniform, you're good to go! New players can find the SquadLocker link on our website under  "Useful Links" on our home page.
Cost
  • Program Fee: $165 per season (Fall or Spring).
  • Uniform: Additional cost if needed (typically around $50–$100, depending on items—check SquadLocker for details).
  • Fees cover league registration, games, and more—great value for competitive play!
Age Groups - Based on US Club Soccer Guidelines for 2025-26 Season

Teams We Play Against
WSSL teams are within a 100-mile radius, so travel is manageable. Based on past seasons, we've faced opponents from places like:
  • Nearby: Taylor, Van Buren, Dearborn, Canton, Wayne/Westland, Garden City, Redford, Monroe.
  • Farther out: Hartland, Hamburg, Fowlerville, Chelsea, Howell.
Games
  • Schedule: Mostly weekends (times and days can vary), with possible weekday matches.
  • Total Games: 8 per season—4 home, 4 away.
  • Home Field: 23850 Huron River Drive, known as "The Cornfields."
Season Timelines
  • Fall Season: Practices start early August; season runs through end of October.
  • Spring Season: Practices begin mid-April; season ends second week of June.
  • Winter Options: Indoor leagues are available but not run by HSA—often organized by volunteer coaches or you can find them independently.
Practices
  • Frequency: Up to the coach, but typically 2 times a week during the season.
  • Focus: Building skills, teamwork, and commitment—attendance is key to a strong team!
  • Locations: Various spots within Willow Metropark. Your coach will share the exact field once teams are formed.
IMPORTANT:
Metropark Permit Required! All vehicles entering Willow Metropark need a permit—it's required for practices and some games. We highly recommend an annual pass for easy access to all 13 Huron-Clinton Metroparks.
  • Cost: Varies (senior discounts available with ID—must buy in person).
  • Where to Buy: Any Metropark toll booth, golf course, park office, or online at www.metroparks.com/shop. Save time and hassle—get one before the season starts!
Competition Levels
WSSL offers multiple tiers to match skill and experience, ensuring fun and fair play for everyone. Your team's level is set by WSSL based on past performance and our HSA rep's recommendations.Questions? We're here to help—send us a message, and let's get your player on the field!
