There are many questions asked in regard to our travel division. Here is some general information for you to review that should answer many of them.
Description: Recreational "Travel" is a pay to play division for players at any skill level beginning at U9 (Birthyear 2016). Players are registered and placed on a gender and age appropriate team (when registration can accommodate this). Our rec. travel league registers through the Western Suburban Soccer League (WSSL) which is the southeastern division of the MICHIGAN STATE YOUTH SOCCER ASSOCIATION (MSYSA).
Teams Played:
The travel fields may differ for various reasons. WSSL is comprised of teams within a 100 mile radius of each other. History indicates that HSA has competed against teams such as Jackson, Hartland, Hamburg, Fowlerville, Chelsea and Howell and as nearby as Taylor, Van Buren, Dearborn and Canton. Other members of the WSSL have included Wayne/Westland, Garden City, Redford and Monroe.
Games:
Teams typically play their games on Saturdays and may have 1 or 2 matches during the week. There are 8 games included for all levels of our Travel league. 4 of the games are played at our home site located on Huron River Drive... "the cornfields." The Fall Travel season begins in early August through late October and Spring season begins late April and through the second week of June. There are always opportunities to play through the winter in indoor facilities, these indoor leagues are sometimes offered by the volunteer coaches of our league.
Practices:
As in other sports, the practice schedule is up to the discretion of the coach. Typically, travel teams practice 1-2 times a week throughout the season. When joining a travel team, players should be focused on improving their skills and team commitment.
Huron Soccer Association practices may be held at Willow MetroPark. You will find out your exact field location within the park from your coach once teams have been formed.
