Lacrosse is North America's oldest sport, invented by the indigenous people of the land. They believed the game was given to them by the creator, to be played for the creator. Also known as the creator's game, medicine game, little brother of war, baggataway, or tewaaraton; lacrosse is fast-paced and full of action. It is an exhilarating sport that requires agility, hand eye coordination and endurance. If your athlete enjoys playing hockey, football, basketball, or soccer; they will love the sport of lacrosse.

OVERVIEW

WYSI OFFERS TWO LEVELS OF LACROSSE PROGRAMS: IN-HOUSE LACROSSE FOR 8U ATHLETES AND TRAVEL LACROSSE FOR 10U, 12U, 14U ATHLETES.

IN-HOUSE LACROSSE for 8U Athletes (generally K-2nd grade)
Born June 1, 2015 or after

The 8U season will begin on Thursday, March 7th. Players will be instructed on the fundamentals of lacrosse for their age group with a focus on FUN and Discovery. Prior lacrosse experience is not necessary. Practices will alternate weekly as follows: Tuesdays and Sundays on Gold Weeks with Thursdays and Sundays on Green Weeks. As the season progresses, house games will be played on Sundays. Full lacrosse equipment is needed and will not be provided by WYSI. All athletes must have an active USA Lacrosse Membership through June of 2024 in order to participate. Lastly, we will also provide opportunities for our athletes to compete in 2-3 local Jamborees which our athletes will participate as a Westfield team(s) vs programs from around the area. Those dates and times are TBD but are generally in May and the first weekend in June.

TRAVEL LACROSSE for 10U, 12U, & 14U Athletes (generally 3rd-8th grade)

We will field an A team and a B Team in all three divisions in 2024. There are no cuts and every athlete will be placed on a travel team within their age group, based on their skill level. The A team is expected to compete at a high level and the B team will focus on player development and building knowledge of the game. Both teams will play in competitive games against other programs in the Indiana Youth Lacrosse Association (IYLA). The A team in each age group will participate in the IYLA State Tournament at the end of the season (May 18th or 19th). The B team will have an opportunity to qualify for this tournament as well. Full lacrosse equipment is needed and will not be provided by WYSI. All athletes must have an active USA Lacrosse Membership through June of 2024 in order to participate. Lastly, we will also provide opportunities for our athletes to compete in very competitive tournaments that will not be included in the registration fee. If your son is selected and available to play in these tournaments, we will divide up the fees and collect payment separately prior to each event.
