TRAVEL SELECT

Who: Girls and Boys in grades 3, 4, 5, 6.

Teams: One boys and one girls WYSI Select team will be formed for each grade. The teams will play in the Indiana Youth Basketball League (IYBL). This is a competitive league made up of teams from the greater Hamilton County area. This will function like our travel teams in other sports, but there is no substantial travel commitment. The IYBL only holds games locally.

There are several "skill divisions" and IYBL does an incredible job of getting teams into the right divisions.

Tryouts: The teams will be playing in a competitive league against other area travel programs, so there will be tryouts for these teams. The tryouts will be held on August 27 at Westfield Middle School. Each team will have a tryout of 60-90 minutes (depending on grade and turnout). A committee of former coaches and commissioners will attend tryouts for all skill levels, with invitations for spots coming soon after tryouts are completed. If your athlete is offered a spot and you accept, please fulfill this commitment. No fees are charged until you have accepted an offer to join a WYSI Select team.

10am - 3rd grade boys

11am - 3rd grade girls

Noon - 4th grade boys

2pm - 4th grade girls

3pm - 5th grade boys

4pm - 5th grade girls

5pm - 6th grade boys

6pm - 6th grade girls

Cost: $300 total. The program cost covers the fee for both sessions and includes a reversible uniform (jersey and shorts).

Practice Commitment: One two-hour practice per week starting in September.

Games Commitment: Teams will begin play in October and play through March. There are two separate 8 game sessions (fall and winter) with a tournament after each. Each session will include one game per week for eight weeks plus a tournament. This equates to a minimum of 18 games over the two sessions. If your athlete can't commit to play both sessions, please consider if this is a good fit. The expectation is that athletes that accept a spot on a WYSI Select team commit to this over all other non-school related activities.

The games take place on weekends with an occasional Monday game. You DO NOT get a schedule upfront, but instead, IYBL sets each team's schedule about 7-14 days out. They do this to make sure games are competitive and it does make for a much better experience.
