House U06 / pre-k Division Rules of Play

Law 1 – The Field of Play

Field Markings: none. Fields will be identified using cones.

Dimensions: Length: Length: 24 yards; Width: 16 yards

The Goal Area: none. Coaches may place cones in a small semi-circle around the goal to discourage players from standing in the goal mouth.

The Penalty Area: none

Flagposts: none. Tall cones will be used to identify the corners of fields.

Goals: goals will be pop-up style four (4) feet or six (6) feet in width.

Law 2 – The Ball

Standard size three (3) ball will be used.

Law 3 – The Number of Players

Players: A match is played between two teams, each consisting of not more than three players. There are no goalkeepers.

Substitutions: Unlimited substitutions may be made.  Ideally there should be no substitutions. Extra players should be combined to form an additional match.

Substitution procedure: At any stoppage of play.

Law 4 – The Players’ Equipment

Conform to FIFA

Law 5 – The Referee

Coaches, other league officials, or parents may be used. Infringements shall be briefly explained to the offending player.

Law 6 – The Assistant Referees


Law 7 – The Duration of the Match

The match shall be divided into four (4) equal 5-minute quarters. There shall be one-minute breaks between quarters 1 and 2 and between quarters 3 and 4. There shall be a two-minute half-time interval between quarters 2 and 3.

Law 8 – The Start and Restart of Play

Conform to FIFA, except that at kick-off opponents are to be at least four (4) yards from the ball until it is in play.

Law 9 – The Ball In and Out of Play

Conform to FIFA. Players are encouraged to quickly return the ball in play, and play need not be stopped if the ball is out of play but it appears that players are attempting to return to the field of play.

Law 10 – The Method of Scoring

Conform to FIFA.

Law 11 – Offside


Law 12 – Fouls and Misconduct

Conform to FIFA, except that no cards are shown for misconduct. Players may be asked to take a break to cool off if they are over-excited or too aggressive. Sliding tackles are not allowed.

Law 13 – Free Kicks

Conform to FIFA, except that all free kicks are direct and opponents must be at least four (4) yards from the ball until it is in play.

Law 14 – The Penalty Kick


Law 15 – The Throw-in

Conform to FIFA, except a kick-in shall be used in place of the throw-in. Kick-ins are considered as direct free kicks. Coaches may also restart play by returning the ball to the field of play.

Law 16 – The Goal Kick

Taken within 2-3 yards from the goal line, anywhere along the goal line near where the ball went out of bounds. Opposing players must be four (4) yards from the ball until it is in play.

Law 17 – The Corner Kick

Conform to FIFA, except opposing players must be four (4) yards from the ball until it is in play.
