House (Recreational) League

The EYSO House League is a recreational program designed to provide all kids aged 4-10 opportunities to play soccer and develop their skills. The EYSO House League’s primary goal is to instill in players a lifelong love for the game and to prepare them to move on to travel or school teams. In addition, the House League provides opportunities for coaches and parents to learn and to love the game.  As a recreational league, the focus is on learning the laws of the game, developing fundamental skills, and having fun; not necessarily on winning matches.

Players are placed in age-specific divisions and are assigned teams in a semi-random fashion to try to balance the skill level across teams. As a result, players will play with youth of similar ages at various skill levels.  U10 and below play in-house against other Euclid teams.  U11-U14 recreational teams play in the western Lake County inter-community recreational league.

EYSO has adopted the US Youth Soccer recommendations for the small-sided game format for our House League. This format attempts to maximize the number of touches each player gets in game situations, allowing players to more quickly develop and hone their skills. The small-sided game format also is more enjoyable for the players as they get more action during games and have less idle time.

Player development will be guided by skills checklists for each age group listing the basic skills that players are expected to learn at each age level. In addition, the House League will adopt the recommendations of the National Standards Project for foot skills assessment and development. These basic skills will give each player a foundation upon which to build in preparation for play at higher levels on travel or school teams. Skills are taught and reinforced in team practice sessions as well as in supplemental Foot Skills clinics offered periodically during the course of the season.

The House League is also a training ground for coaches. Those who volunteer to coach in the House League need not have any previous soccer or coaching experience, and will receive instruction from more experienced coaches. Multi-team practice sessions, coaches’ clinics, and one-on-one training will help develop the even the most inexperienced parent into a knowledgeable and confident youth soccer coach.
