Welcome to the Soccer Home Page for Liberty League

The Huntsville Liberty League is proud to offer recreational youth soccer this spring season. Youth soccer is an excellent sport to develop fitness, teamwork, coordination, and agility that will benefit children in all other aspects of life. New and returning players are welcome. Our program emphasizes fun, player and skill development, and an atmosphere intended to foster enjoyment of this great sport.

The spring season is non-competitive and a chance for children to develop skills and have fun in the process. Volunteer referees will be utilized during the spring and all games/scrimmages will be hosted at Bell Mountain and Sandhurst as needed for the older age groups.

Teams will be formed shortly after registration closes and should there not be enough children in a particular age group to form more than one complete team, a pool team will be created.

Age Requirements
Our soccer program has teams for players ages 4 through 16 years old. To determine the age division your child will play in, refer to the following age requirements:

Your player will need to have the following equipment:

Soccer Ball - Inexpensive regulation balls can be purchased at all discount and sporting goods stores. The required ball size is age specific:
  • Size 3: Ages 4-7
  • Size 4: Ages 8-11
  • Size 5: Ages 12 and older

Shin Guards - For the safety of our players, shin guards are required for all practices and games.

Shorts and high socks - Shirts will be provided but shorts and socks will not. High socks are needed to cover the shin guards and help hold them in place.

Water Container - Nothing specific is required here, but all players will need to bring water to practice. We will be playing in the August Alabama sun!

Cleats (optional, but recommended) - Soccer and baseball cleats are different – baseball cleats have a cleat on the toe of the shoe and are strictly prohibited.
Referees will not allow a player to participate in a game wearing these type cleats. Often, parents opt to cut the toe cleat off of the Spring’s baseball cleats.
Your coach can provide further guidance at your first practice.

Heading

All players participating in the Under 12 age group and younger shall not head the ball directly from the air in any match, nor shall these players practice heading the ball in any organized team setting.

Volunteers Needed!
To deliver the quality program you expect from us at HLL, we need volunteers. Please consider coaching your child or volunteering as a team parent. In the spring season volunteer referees are needed and we will provide a rule sheet and help answer any rule questions.

Previous soccer knowledge is not required to be a coach
. There will be multiple training opportunities for coaches, assistant coaches and interested parents during the season.

It is now easier than ever to coach at HLL! This year each coach will be provided with a coaching kit that includes training bibs, cones, ball pump, first aid kit, spare soccer balls, a field bag, goalie gear and coaching drills. There is no monetary investment necessary for our volunteers so that you are able to focus on the kids.

Coaches are able to choose their own practice times. If you are willing to help, we will work with your schedule any way we can! Every volunteer at our park is also a busy parent. If you have any questions, please contact the director.
