Mason SAY Soccer

How to assign myself!

Once you access our Sign Up Genius, you should see something similar to this!
  • A: Select the division at the top of the screen.
  • B: If you have a Sign Up Genius account, select log in at the top (or the mobile menu on the right) to log in or create your account. You can also choose to log in with your Facebook account if this is easier
    • NOTE: For Mason SAY, you are not required to have a Sign Up Genius account, but we strongly encourage you to have an account in Sign Up Genius. This is because you can view all of your games in one spot, and it will give you access to remove yourself from an assignment if something comes up.
    • If you decide NOT to have a Sign up Genius account, you can sign up but you won’t be able to edit or delete your sign up. You will have to contact the Referee Coordinator.
  • C: Reach out to the Referee Coordinator by clicking the Contact Button
    •  This is the preferred method to contact us! If it is an emergency, send a text to the Referee Coordinator!
  • Find an open game and click the Sign Up button on the games you want.
    • If you don’t see the sign up checkbox, it could mean 1 of 2 things. (1) the game is fully covered. (2) we have locked and/or hidden it as Mason SAY is working on referee assignments.
  • Once you have selected your games, Press Save & Continue at the bottom of your screen
If you are NOT signed in to Sign Up Genius, your screen will look like this.
  • D: Note that the name and the comment you enter will be visible to anyone viewing the signup. Please keep this in mind. If you have a comment that you only want the referee coordinator to see, send it to us directly and do not put it in this comment box. Quantity should ALWAYS be one. DO NOT take two slots for the same game, as we will remove you from that game all together!
  • E: For all divisions except Kickers and Minors/Seniors, you need to answer what time you need to arrive. This always needs to be 15 minutes BEFORE your first game of the day, NOT the game time itself.
  • F: For the referee name, the first name (or nickname) and last initial is required at minimum. You don’t need to put the full last name if you don’t want to do so, and it is completely your choice. Any signups that show up as the parent’s name (unless the parent is a certified referee) will be deleted by Mason SAY!

If you are signed in to Sign Up Genius, your screen will be similar to the one above, but will look like this. You will know because it will show up as Sign Up as with your account name

If you are a parent/guardian using your account, make sure you check the box located at G that says “Display an alternate name on the sign up (like a child or spouse)”. Then, enter the referee name (first name and last initial at minimum). This will make sure you get the email confirmation but show the referee name for Mason SAY records.

Finally, click Sign Up Now to complete the registration process. If successful, you will see a confirmation screen and receive a confirmation email. This email will say it is from Mason SAY with the subject Games Assigned! It will contain your game information, as well as an edit link in case you need to remove yourself from the assignment.

How to unassign myself

  • If you need to remove yourself from a game, please note the following Mason SAY policies!
    • You can remove yourself anytime up until 24 hours before the game on Sign Up Genius for any reason!
    • Within 1 day of the game, you cannot unassign yourself on Sign Up Genius and will need to contact the Referee Coordinator immediately!
    •  There MUST be a valid reason as to why you cannot ref if canceling within 24 hours of the game. If it is not a valid reason at the discretion of the referee coordinator, or if you do not show up to an assigned game without communicating to the referee coordinator, this is grounds for dismissal from the referee program.

There are several ways to remove yourself from a game as long as it is NOT within 24 hours of the game!

Option 1 (easiest way):

  • Check your confirmation email from Sign Up Genius when you signed up!
  • On the bottom of it, there should be a link that says Edit my sign up.
  • Click this link, then press the Delete button.
  • Once removed from the assignment, you will receive a confirmation email.

Option 2: If you have a Sign Up Genius account

  • Go to signupgenius.com
  • Log in to your account
  • You will see something like this screen. Under Actions, select the x icon

If you are on the referee schedule page for your division and are logged in to Sign Up Genius, you will see some icons next to your name. Select the x icon to unassign yourself

You can then include a reason if you want as to why you are canceling. Once ready, press Yes - Delete to remove yourself. You will then receive a confirmation email once done.

Option 3:

  • Visit our Sign Up Genius link
  • You should see a button that says Change My Sign Up. This will be right under the Contact button or the Created by person. Click this button
  • You will see this screen
  • If you were logged in to Sign Up Genius when you signed up, select A. If you were NOT logged in to Sign Up Genius when you signed up, select B. If a Referee Coordinator signed up, selection C.
  • If you select A, you will log in to Sign Up Genius to complete steps in Option 2. If you select B or C,  Enter the email address you used to sign up or the one we have on file to receive an edit link.
  • Check your email to get the edit link, open the link, and press delete. You will receive a confirmation email about you being removed from the game.
NOTE: If we did not enter an email address for you when the Referee Coordinator assigned you to a game, none of these options will work and you need to contact the referee coordinator directly for us to remove you!

Swapping Referee Assignments

This will only be available for referees on Strikers, Kickers and Minors/Seniors games. Games in younger divisions will have this feature turned OFF!

You need to have a Sign Up Genius account in order to initiate an assignment swap. If you want to swap a referee assignment with someone, you can do the following process to request a swap!

Step 1: visit the referee assignment page on Sign Up Genius.
Step 2: under your name on the assignment you want to swap, click the swap icon.

Step 3: select the referee and assignment you want to swap with and select the check box. You can request a swap with any of the assignments in case you wanted to select more than 1 assignments you are willing to swap with.
Step 4: Select Request a Swap.

The person you requested a swap will receive an email with a link to respond. If you receive a swap request, click the link in the email to respond.

If you are okay and willing to swap the game assignment, select YES. If you are NOT okay/willing to swap the assignment, select NO.

The person that initiated the swap will receive a response whether it is yes or no. If it is approved, the referee coordinator will also receive an email about the swap.

Common Errors

If you see this message, this could mean 1 of 2 reasons.
1. Mason SAY has not approved you to ref that division. If it is a division younger than you usually ref, send us a message and we can add you to the approved person list for that division. If it is a division older than what you usually ref, this means Mason SAY believes you are not ready to ref that division and you should view a younger division to get games.
2. Your email address is different than the one on file. Please reach out to us so we can update your email address.

If you see the below message, this means you are trying to take too many games at once. Mason SAY limits the amount of games a person can take to promote fairness for all referees. This means you need to lower the amount of games you are signing up for.

If you see the below message, this means you are within 24 hours of the game and cannot cancel the game yourself. You must contact the Referee Coordinator directly with a valid reason why you cannot do the game. Invalid reasons or failure to show up for an assigned game without contacting the Referee Coordinator is grounds for dismissal!

You also might be able to see assignments, but the button says Locked. This means Mason SAY is still finalizing the Referee Assignments and you cannot sign up for games yet. We will let you know when you can sign up for games. If you cannot see any games at all, it also means either we are working on the schedule or the game is in the past.
