DeKalb AYSO

Where Does the Money Go?

DeKalb AYSO strives to keep our costs as low as possible; we have, in fact, been encouraged to RAISE our prices by other Regional Boards.  Most of the Board members have multiple children, so we know how imperative it is to stretch a dollar.  For that reason, here's a list of just SOME of the expenses that we need to cover with registration monies, in no particular order.  It is worth noting that NONE of the Board members receives any monetary compensation whatsoever, AYSO is an all volunteer organization.

  • Field Rental - A large portion of our monies go to reserve the fields for our use on Saturday mornings.  Other groups reserve it during other parts of the week.  While expensive, we are extremely fortunate to have all of our games in one place all on Saturday mornings.  Many communities have to utilize multiple parks during all parts of the weekend to fit their season in.
  • Room Rental - We pay to use the area schools for registration.
  • Player Uniforms - We also pay for the jersey, shorts and socks that comprise the uniforms.  These run anywhere from $18-20 per player, PLUS shipping.  These have to be ordered early enough for them to be made, shipped, sorted, and delivered to coaches.   Part of the added cost after the early bird rate expires is to cover hefty rush shipping fees.  (Note: the required shin guards and optional cleats are an additional expense; we do have a cleat and shin guard exchange for those feet that keep on growing!)
  • Ref Uniforms - Each of the refs needs a ref jersey, whistle, red and yellow cards, game coin, etc.
  • Tee-shirts - Board members each receive one board shirt a year and because they change more often, coaches receive one per season.  We pay for any additional shirts we order out of our own pockets.
  • First Aid Kit - Each coach receives a small first aid kit in their coaching materials.
  • Coach Bag - Each coach receives their player uniforms, first aid kit, rosters, etc. in a pre-sorted bag.
  • Office Supplies - Coaches receive a roster with all their players listed, as well as other material that needs to be copied, put in a folder, etc.
  • Coach Manuals - Each coach receives a coaching manual for the season.
  • Liability Insurance - We have to pay for liability insurance for practice/game locations.
  • Player Insurance - We have to pay for secondary medical insurance which will cover some expenses in the event of an injury incurred to a currently registered player or currently registered volunteer during an AYSO sanctioned event.
  • License Plate Registration Fees and Insurance - We pay to cover those for the AYSO trailer.
  • Volunteer Appreciation - This is a lesser amount of money because we order in bulk, but everyone deserves a thank you for volunteering their time.
  • Player Awards - each season, all players get a participation award.  In the seasons where there is an upper division championship, the winning team also receives an additional player award.
  • Porta-Potties - These are not supplied by the Park District, we actually pay for those for the convenience of our families.
  • Equipment - Every couple of years, we need to replace a lot of the soccer balls, the large goal nets, the U5 and U6 goals, corner flags, line flags.  The Park District provides the goal frames and SOME nets.  Volunteers hang and remove the nets at the beginning and end of the season.
  • Forms - We have to pay for all of the brochures and player forms that we obtain from the national office.  There is a fee for both the blank forms and the pre-printed forms.
  • Flyers - The actual making of the flyers is done on a volunteer basis, as is the delivery of the flyers, but we pay for the actual copies.
  • Website - The actual design, updating and maintenance of the website is done on a volunteer basis, but we pay for the website to be hosted on local servers.
  • Sectional Meeting - The National Office strongly recommends that the Board attends the annual conference updating us on new policies and procedures.  The Region covers conference registration, hotel costs, one meal and mileage for the conference.  Board members pay for all other non-included incidentals and meals themselves.
  • Postage - Use for mailing out insurance and other required forms to AYSO.
