Welcome to the Atlanta Flying Disc Club 2018 YCC Tryouts! This program's goal is to develop individual player skills and select AFDC’s teams for USA Ultimate’s 2018 Youth Club Championships (YCC), held at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota, August 4-6, 2018.

Who: U20 and U17 Divisions. To be eligible for U17, cannot turn 17 during 2018 and to be eligible for U20, cannot turn 20 in 2018 and must have played in a USAU-sanctioned league and/or high school States. College players are not eligible for YCC.

Players are mostly intermediate to advanced but everyone is encouraged to join the event, regardless of experience or commitment levels. Even with high levels of competition, our experienced YCC coaching staff focuses on the development of individual and team skills for all players, especially for our U17 teams.

Fee: $20 per player for Tryouts and $475 dues for the season plus flight to Minnesota. (Dues includes hotels, food, and transportation for the weekend of the tournament plus jerseys, coaches and practice fields throughout the season)

Please do not let cost be a deterrent for attending tryouts or participating in this program. We offer need-based financial aid and scholarships for the YCC team, and we are determined to make sure that individuals who are interested in participating are able to play! Please see Financial Aid section below for details.

Participation Requirements:

We highly encourage individuals to apply for financial aid if they are unable to pay part or all of our registration fees. We want to make sure that our sport is accessible to everyone!

Youth Club Championships (YCC) Frequently Asked Questions

What is YCC?

The Youth Club Championships is a competitive national tournament run by USA Ultimate, with participation from youth teams from around the country. The 2018 YCC will be held in Blaine, Minnesota at the National Sports Center August 4-6, 2018.

Who plays on YCC teams?  Do they have to have played for their school?

Players from across metro Atlanta participate on AFDC’s YCC teams.  No prior experience is necessary. It is a great way to meet players from all over greater Atlanta.

How many teams will AFDC send to YCC?

This summer AFDC is hoping to bring 4 teams to YCC Nationals. The options are U17 Girls, U17 Boys, U20 Girls, U20 Mixed and U20 Boys. Teams will be selected by our coaching staff and the exact combination of teams will depend on the numbers at tryouts.

What is the time commitment?

Players selected for YCC teams are expected to attend team meetings at the beginning of the season and before the local and YCC tournaments. They also participate in a majority of the practices held twice weekly during June and July.  If available, they play in a local tournament leading up to YCC, and of course, they play in the YCC tournament in August.

How much will YCC cost?

Players selected for YCC teams will be responsible for the following:

  • Round-trip flight to Minnesota (Minneapolis), plus

  • YCC dues ($475) which cover:

    • Coaches stipends

    • Practice fields in Atlanta

    • Local tournament team entry fees (summer tournament prior to YCC)

    • YCC team and player entry fees to USAU

    • Uniforms  (light jersey, dark jersey and shorts)

    • Transportation to/from airport/hotel and to/from hotel/fields

    • 3 nights hotel accommodation

    • Food during YCC

Are there any other hidden/extra costs?

  • Parents often volunteer to provide food for team meetings and the local tournament.

  • Some parents choose to attend the tournament in Minnesota.

  • Additional hotel nights if your player travels there early or stays later

  • Coaches’ gifts, if the team chooses

  • Players or families might choose to purchase practice jerseys or extra uniforms

Do parents have to travel with the player?

No, chaperones (other parents and coaches) are tasked with responsibility for all players under 18, from check-in at the ATL airport to landing back in Atlanta at the end of the weekend.  Our well-oiled YCC Team machine will coordinate players, coaches & chaperones to make sure everyone's experience is safe, affordable, and enjoyable!
