B10 Duka Complete a Successful Weekend at Pequannock

The Torpedoes Boys U10 Duka completed a successful weekend at the Pequannock Columbus Day Tournament this past weekend.

Even though the U10 flight does not post scores or keep standings, the boys feel like champions after going undefeated in the top flight over the weekend. While easily winning their first two games on Saturday, the boys played a hard-fought game Sunday morning, which started in dense fog making end to end visibility a challenge. After conceding a goal to tie the game 1-1 early in the second half, the boys rallied for the final 20 minutes, stepping up their game to win 3-1. The team kept up the hard work and good play going from the initial whistle in their last game, dominating what was the best team they played in their final game to the tune of a 6-1 victory, completing their undefeated weekend.

Congratulations boys!!

B14 White Claim Second Consecutive Tournament Championship

The Torpedoes B14 White Team continues their great start to the Fall season by claiming their second consecutive championship at the Parsippany Columbus Day tournament this past weekend.

The team competed with great determination and played what Coach Andy thought was some of the best soccer the team has produced. In the first game against FCUSA the team started brightly with Greg Latronica and Connor Brooks on the scoresheet in the first half and the game ended 2-0. The second game saw Torpedoes again dominate the first half against Randolph with Connor Brooks again on the score sheet volleying home a fantastic cross from Tyler Smith, the game ended 1-0 with Torpedoes collecting the maximum 6 points.

This meant going into the first game Sunday against US Parma the Torpedoes knew they were already guaranteed a spot in the final. The team played out a 0-0 tie but controlled possession and played a very smart game in order to conserve energy for the championship game.

The championship game saw the team come up against old rivals RYSA who the past 5 encounters had ended up in ties. This time is was not to be, Torpedoes fought out a 3-1 victory to bring the trophy back to Wyckoff. Depsite falling behind in the first 10 mins to a set piece Torpedoes played some fantastic soccer in the first half and went in 2-1 ahead at the break thanks to goals from Connor Brooks and Jonathan Grossman. The second half the boys began to tire and thanks to some fantastic team defending, a couple of great saves by Rocco Faustini the boys held out the first 20 mins. Then a decisive 5 mins in the final killed the game, following a RYSA free kick which came off the inside of one post then hit the post the opposite side Torpedoes counter attacked through Aidan Miller, he played a fantastic ball through to lone forward Connor Brooks who raced past the RYSA defense to slot home from 20 yards and give Torpedoes the 3-1 victory.

A great job by the whole team: Rocco Faustini, Brendan Egan, Tyler Smith, Sam Costa, Aidan Hildebrand, Gavin Foley, Aidan Miller, Jack Gifford, Tyler Marion, Ryan Stromeyer, Connor Brooks, Greg Latronica, Jonathan Grossman, Vince Porta

B11 Red Claim Third Tournament Championship

The Torpedoes U11B Red continued their great tournament record by claiming their third consecutive championship at the Parsippany Columbus Day tournament this past weekend.

The team competed with great determination and played some great soccer over the weekend. In the first game the team started with great confidence winning the first game 5-0 against the Clifton Stallions. The second game against West Morris saw Torpedoes again dominate the first half with Owen Neubart scoring the first goal after 10 seconds. Danny Silver added the 2nd and 3rd with a header from a corner and a lovely left foot finish in the top corner. With a few minutes left West Morris pulled a goal back from the PK spot, the game ended 3-1.

This meant going into the first game Sunday against SDFC; the Torpedoes knew they were already guaranteed a spot in the final. This did not stop the team wanting to finish the group off in style and the team ran out convincing 9-0 winners. The highlight when regular GK Robbie Achter went on the field in the second half and upon scoring a goal was embraced by all his team mates who were delighted for him.

The championship game saw the team come up against Montclair Utd. The first half saw Torpedoes go 1-0 ahead with a great finish in the bottom corner by Owen Neubart. Torpedoes should really have added to the score before half time but some near misses and good saves denied them. With a few minutes of the half remaining Robbie Achter did not get enough on his punt and the ball was hit first time back over his head by the Montclair Center Mid from the halfway line. The teams went in 1-1 at the break. The second half the Torpedoes were determined not to let the run of tournament wins slip away and they started at a ferocious pace with Kevin McDonough scoring a 7 minute hat trick to effectively kill the game off. Owen Neubart added to the score to make it 5-1 and the Torpedoes were champions again.

B12 Red Baumgarten Claim Pequannock Championship

U12 Boys Baumgarten won the 11v11 bracket of the Pequannock Columbus Day Tourney over the weekend, with the addition of a few guest players from U12 boys Apostolou.

The boys showed  that supplementing their 8v8 Northern Counties schedule with a half dozen games in the 11v11 bracket in MAPS is providing great dividends as the team went undefeated on the weekend, conceding only 3 goals in four games while scoring 16.

Head coach Evan Baumgarten credits the depth of talent in the U12 boys age group as a large factor in the team's success in 11v11 games thus far this season.  "When we expand the roster to 16 or 17 players, our talent level stays the same; other clubs do not have that luxury and teams can get weaker when they have to add players" said Baumgarten.

The team hopes to build upon this weekend's success as they continue their Northern Counties & MAPS schedules in the upcoming weeks.
