Originally called "Grass Roots", Gunston Soccer launched the “Gunston Academy” program in Fall 2014. This program is exclusively aimed at developing players’ technical skills in a friendly and fun environment within the micro-soccer framework which differentiates our Club from the rest.
Gunston offers once-a-week Academy training to Gunston registered players in the U7 and U8 age divisions at no extra cost to each family. Boys and girls are trained separately by well-qualified trainers to enhance these children’s soccer skills. Days & times are announced 2 to 3 weeks before the regular Recreation season starts.
Our Club believes this approach provides the fundamental needs for our children to develop into skilled soccer players while they enjoy learning the game. In addition, this Program presents high caliber training for those children wanting “a little more” as well as prepare them for U9 travel tryouts held by the Club in late May / June.
Players participating in the Academy program are automatically eligible to take part in the Challenge League, which consists of 3 or 4 games held at Grist Mill Park on Sunday afternoons against U7 / U8 teams from other Clubs in the area.
